Does anyone have any real world experience with this bullet, I'm building a 270 wsm and a 270 weatherby for deer and elk. But I would like to know how reliable these bullets are. I'm also considering picking up some corbin dies and making some of my own bullets, possibly some 170-185 gr.

06guy, you'll need a 1:8 barrel for the 170gr. I'm having my 270Wby rebarreled. Might see it in my hands in 5-6 months. Two .270's seems redundant, but sure you'll enjoy them. Good luck

I have heard of a couple guys getting good results with them, one particular member with a long barreled .270 Ackley getting outstanding performance for the cartridge....

I would make sure and throat the WSM long and make sure you have a tight twist and enough mag space for this bullet.

I'm planning on 2, 1-8 twist pac-nor barrels. The weatherby will be on a howa action 28", and the wsm is on my old winchester shadow 26". Probably stick with the factory contour or slightly bigger on the wsm. I planned on having both guns throats set with the boat tail at the neck junction. I just hate to throw 1-8 on both guns and find out the 170s are thin and explode on impact or something and have 2 expensive paper weights.
Thx for the repies.
One more thing, should I skip the winchester action for the wsm and just use a long remington 700 to get my length or is there a long enough mag box for a short action.

The new owner of matrix is doing runs of the 165 I believe. I have ran tons of the matrix and some of the 170 Berger in my 270 Sherman and 270 SS. Right now I have a load for the 170 in my Sherman and using the 165 matrix in my SS. I hope to get something with one or both of those rifles this year.

Yes he is, I'm thinking about placing an order on the 165 matrix as well but he wants a min. of 500 bullets if I remember correctly.
And keep me informed on your hunt. I'm hoping some one here has pictures, and real life experiences. I'm wanting to order my 270 weatherby barrel as soon as I'm done elk hunting in November.

Mr Dosh,
Did you ever get your 270wby built?
I've never liked any Wby case but there's something about a 270wby that really strikes me as sexy.
I can see a lot of potential in a 8 twist 270wby and the 170s seated out long!

Any updates?

My wife's buck was at 100yds through the lungs and mine at 575yds through one shoulder blade and lungs. Both bucks ran 50-100yds and piled up. Truthfully, I'm not real sure why they ran anywhere... Jello inside with caliber entrance and inch or so exit. Considering the considerably different impact velocities they're looking pretty consistent to me so far. I'm shooting an 8 twist 270 Sherman with them leaving the muzzle at 3080. I'm gonna keep shootn em.

23, still waiting, probably another another 2-4 months. I have a .270 Win I can play with till then as soon as I refinish the stock. Hope I can use the .270 Wby mag on an antelope this Sept. I have a lot of Az points for the draw.

A buddy and myself built a couple rifles specifically for this bullet last year one is a 270 weatherby with an 8 twist and the other is a 270x300 weatherby with an 8 twist the bullet performed perfect on two bull elk and a mule deer
