Range finder, close range, lower end models

Getting back into bow hunting, and would like to get a range finder. Also might use it a bit for rifle, nothing over 2-300 yards, if ever. My rifle hunting is well under 100, last year 15 yards. They did some logging, might have the change to shoot further this year.

Leupold 650s, are cheap enough where I would by them without thinking to long. $158 on Amazon. Like i said, probably more so for for bow. But also play with them in blind.

I realize this is on the cheap side for many people here. I do think about the someday maybe I might go out west, and want something better. But the cost may stop me from buying a pair this year.

So opinions? Thanks.

I picked up a Sig kilo 2000 for $350 at Cabela's. It's quite a bit more than the Leupold you are looking at but it's a pretty big improvement over it.

I could go that much. Just dont want to spend it, if I am not using it. Like I said bow hunting is big purpose. Plus I bought a 45-70. I realize neighter is long range hunting. But figured people here had lots of experience.


I do have Cabela $75 off coupon. Though Amazon often is so much cheaper.

I have looked before. But get bogged down in all the models.

Optics planet has it for $375. Cabelas 499.

Leupold 1200i on sale for $250. Opinions?

I don't have much experience with range finders. I recently bought the Sig Kilo 1200. It is ridiculously simple to operate, and it was about $200. I would recommend it to anyone looking to "get in".

Cabela's has the Sig Kilo 2200 for 400 which is an upgrade over the 2000. It may be more than what you want but you would never outgrow it. I would look into the lesser Sig models to reduce price and read lots of reviews

I debate this. Better ones, take longer to decide to buy. Cheap ones you may out grow.

Though in UP, its hard to shoot 40 yards. It may be a waste of money to buy some of these.

Ya I think someday maybe go somewhere. Do I worry about that then, or make the trip more affordable, by being ready?


Want one next week for bow hunting. Gun hunting, not more than 300 yards, and that would be an extreme fluke. But with a 45-70, you need to know your range, on the odd chance I do see one over 100 yards. Never have seen one in my life over 100, when hunting.

So why are any of these better than the other cheap ones?

The 2200 is an upgrade over the 2000. It has a smaller aiming reticle and possibly a little longer range (not sure about the longer range) I have the 2000 and it is pretty awesome. It was one of the best rangefinders when it came out, and certainly the best under $1000. Most rangefinders that advise say 500yds are lucky to range a deer at 100. The kilo 2000 and above also does shooting angle compensation which is a must for bow hunting, and that 45-70 lobs the lead in a pretty good arc too. The Sig is also tiny and light. It fits in any of my hunting coat pockets easily. About the only pocket it won't fit in are a pair of jean pockets. If you do choose the Cabela's route, make sure you call them even if they show no stock online. My local Cabela's has never shown stock in the store but had it when I got there. Being in the UP I'm sure you have a pretty decent drive to anywhere!

Amazon prime will get here in 2-3 days. I split my time between UP and WI.

I think the Gander Mtn closed in Marquette, which I didn't care for anyways. Oddly enough for as hunting orientated as the UP is, there are no big hunting stores. Lots of big box stores for other stuff.

With mail order, I wonder if it will become less likely to get them. You go to Cabelas and they tell you we only carry a fraction of inventory, and you must order.

While I do shop at Cabelas, they can usually get stuff cheaper online. If I have to order something, it is usually not from them. Thouh they do have sales. I just ordered crossbow case that was cheaper than Amazon.

Do people not like the Leupold range finders? I notice alot of people on here like chinese scopes and don't like Leupold. I suspect the range finder is imported. But don't know for sure.

I just took delivery of a Kilo 2200LRH from Cabela's yesterday. It was $399. Ranged everything I looked at on the farm. It instantly ranged my neighbor's 40 x 30 barn at 1938 yards. I ranged cows at up to 1400. I likey!
