Hi All, thinking about either swapping out an older scope on my model 70 .223,(currently a Pentax lightSeeker 6x24) or getting one for an AR15 I am thinking of buying.
I wanted some opinions on either a Leupold VX-3 6.5x20x50 varmint reticle or the Vortex PST 6x24x50, not sure which reticle.

I looked at both today and I think I like the Leupold a bit better, but wanted to check with the forum to see what you guys might like between the two models.

Rifle will be used mostly for target shooting, but will also be used for Prairie dogs and possibly coyotes

just to make it more difficult, how about a Sightron. Seems like it might be a good option, just not sure where I would go to look at one.

I own both. I like my vipers HS LR better than the vx111 4-14 & 6-18 vx11. Viper clearer to me, both dial true and no problems with either. I have a friend that says his vx111 8-25 is clearer than the viper 6-24. Personal preference? Both great scopes for the price.

I left Leupold when I started shooting beyond 500yds in favor of Vortex due to its features. Leupold offered nothing to compare to the EBR-1 reticle or the turrets or the zero stop that was even close to my price range. Sightron only lacks the zero stop or I would have one as it has the better eyebox of the Leupold and the reticle and turrets of the Vortex. I can't tell much if any difference in the glass.
My 2 cents

Leupold. No doubt about it.

+1
Leupy all the way for me personally. Great glass, Proven reputation, longevity of the company, products, & warranty, & the ability to change reticles, or turrets, or any number of things from the custom shop along with the quality control & rigorous testing to back up their warranty makes it my choice.

I hear good things about the viper PST from reputable shooters tho.

I have several Vortex Vipers. If you want to hold elevation and wind at the same time, go with the EBR2C reticle. If you prefer to dial then either one is good.

I prefer leupold, but the vortex come in with good features at a lower price.

However, in my own personal eyes, my vx3's are clearer then my viper PST.

Hey guys, thanks for all the help. I was able to snag a new VX-3 6.5x20x50 with the varmint reticle this weekend for a really good price. Now I just have to learn how to shoot with it. I've never used a scope with anything other than regular crosshairs.

I'm still curious about the Sightron, but it's hard to find one to look through it.
