    Over the counter tags

You might still be able to buy OTC doe tags, but the population has been down a bit, so not sure if there are as many available as at one time. I'd just call the Wyoming G&F. They are very helpful.

To clean your gun or not to clean your gun-thats my question

I don't have 600 rounds on any of my hunting rifles. Even the old ones. My competition rifles on the other hand get new barrels every two years, and I clean those after every club match, or after 60-80 rounds, whichever comes first.

    Over the counter tags

Not really. Wyoming would be your best bet for a leftover tag, but you still have to buy them on line the day they become available after the lottery. Also, where the tags are available are usually mostly private land, so getting permission ahead of time is imperative.

To clean your gun or not to clean your gun-thats my question

Agree when it comes to everything but the inside of the barrel. Guns that are clean shoot differently than guns that are fowled. If you sight in your hunting rifle after several shots (lets say 6 or more shots) and start getting good groups and the right point of impact, then clean it, you...

To clean your gun or not to clean your gun-thats my question

You answered your own question. Always shoot a fowled barrel.

To clean your gun or not to clean your gun-thats my question

Competition or hunting? They differ a bit. I have to say that this applies to my competition rifles as well as my hunting rifles. Competition: Most competitions go for many rounds of shooting. You want to clean your barrel in between competitions or flights if possible, then fowl the...

One powder to rule them all (30-06)?

4350 is a standard. If you want heavier than 155 grain bullets and go to say 170 grain+, try 4831.

    Epoxy for aluminum pillars?

Marine-Tex is the best out there. Used by the best gunsmith's in America. Shrinks less than any other epoxy. Available on Amazon for less than $20. I use the gray color. http://marinetex.com/products/marine-tex-products/marine-tex-epoxy-putty/ My second choice would be Devcon 10110

    Getting Meat Home

Debone all the meet. Wrap in garbage bags (or whatever plastic) and put in a cooler with ice for the ride home. Where are you hunting in Wyoming? Just taking it to a processor for butchering and freezing before the trip home is also a good option.

1st elk hunt need rifle advice

Any of those will work, but for Elk, you will want something that will shoot a 180 grain bullet above 2800 FPS. For deer you don't need that heavy of a bullet. I am a bit traditional when it comes to hunting calibers. It also depends if you reload as several in your group will be really...

Do we overvalue sentimental value of our guns?

A lot of private sellers have told me their stories around a gun, thinking that it will create empathy for the sale and a higher price, or they think it is worth more because of the story. I don't buy on people's memories about an object. Secondly, auctions create a whole different overpricing...

Recommendations on smith to bed an action

If you have never done it on something you don't care about, don't. Others here say it is a DIY project, but I would be hesitant and I have some skills and experience with it. Your best option is to send it off to someone to have it done. If you have a McMillan stock, McMillan can do it...

Cheapest of the higher quality scopes

I would recommend a Vortex scope in 6-24. I use it on an AR platform rifle for 600 yard target shooting and it works well. The more magnification you can afford the better. I own a Viper and really like it. I think 24x is the highest magnification in any of their lines. As an alternative...

    barrel life

If its still shooting well, no worries. You should get 2000 rounds through it before it needs to be replaces. Your caliber is not an overbore caliber like .243 or 6.5-284. The difference you are seeing in the rifling is the difference in manufacturing and/or design. When you see your...

    Any 17 WSM Coyote Kills?

First time poster on this site but saw this string and thought I would add some commentary. I have a complete review over on AccurateShooter.com for the BMag and .17 WSM, but I have hunted with it for yotes for two seasons. Where I hunt for them is in the 'burbs so you can only used rimfire or...
