    Carbon barrel protection?

I don’t do anything to protect a barrel. I can’t imagine some impact that would damage the barrel being prevented by tape or plastic etc. Every other component on a rifle with a CF barrel will be more vulnerable to damage from rocks etc. If I was concerned about the looks of a rifle the barrel...

Electronics- AirPods, or “old school” corded ear phones?

I didn’t realize people wear either while hiking or hunting. There is absolutely no way I would waste any of my time in the mountains/woods taking in any sounds other than nature. I put ear plugs in before I shoot but that is all. I think handicapping one of your senses to listen to music is silly.

    Blackhorn 209 question

Yeah. I’ll add the don’t shoot this charge work up to a charge you feel comfortable with to that post. Thanks for the reminder Encore!

    Blackhorn 209 question

WARNING: the charges I mentioned in this post are not a recommendation or even something someone should try. I was just giving an example to show why measuring on a scale is better than volume measurement using my specific rifle. These charges were worked up in a custom build and no one should...

    Advice needed on shooting a 28 nosler a w/ 150 grain e tip

Lot of bearing surface on those etips. I had issues with a 1:9 twist 280ai with etips…wouldn’t group well at all. Ran some 140 ttsx and shot fine. I think the 150 etips are right on the line for stability out of a 9 twist. Just shoot them and see how they do in your rifle.

    Need advice - Backpack upgrade

Only read first couple pages so maybe this was covered. I like Kifaru for carrying more weight. They are a “heavy” pack but if I’m hauling out a heavy load I want comfort. They are also indestructible. I had an older Kifaru tumble off a knife edge and bomb down a scree/boulders for 200-300yds...

    Taking meat home….airplane

You can bring meat back in a carry on or checked or ship. I’ve filled up my carry on and backpack with frozen meat. You don’t even need to be completely frozen just as long as it’s sealed in a bag. If not totally frozen then wrap it in your clothing. Most hunts you will have two checked bags...

    Sheep hunting Boot recommendations

I go through a set of kennetreks every two years. Excellent boots. That said…try on a bunch…each boot will fit different. Once you find the perfect boot wear it for a year…if it’s what you want buy a second pair and slowly break them in. That way when you have the first pair worn down you have...

    A Man and His Rifle

I’m a functionalist. They are a tool. BUT I understand the romantics…I was able to hold and play with O’Connor’s sheep rifle #2 a few years ago…and that was an awesome experience! I swear that rifle had an energy to it…but maybe that was just from all the stories and articles I’ve read about it...
