Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

Using Lee seating and crimp dies, but a Hornady sizing die. Will definitely try to get lube in the neck next time. Thanks, all, for the replies. Yes I've posted this several places to try and gain as many responses as quickly as possible...and with good success!

Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

Alright. All of this is for non-precision stuff anyway, so the variances don't really bother me that much. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't overworking my brass or putting myself at risk of head separation.

Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

Ah ok. I get it, I believe. The Hornady tool I'm using isn't measuring from the breech face, so this it isn't capturing true "headspace"

Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

Wow, thanks for the education. Still reading the Brownells link. That is really novel info, for me. So, the follow-up data I posted suggested that on average I was setting the shoulder back from a fired cartridge 3/1000"; this sounds like the number I should be focusing on, correct, 243?

Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

Ok, looked up headspace. So is there an official name/word then for the dimension we are measuring when measuring from case head to shoulder datum?

Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

Thanks, 243. Unprepped sizes being super consistent isn't an indication that the brass expanded to the chamber? I don't understand.

Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

Please enlighten as to how me knowing the definition of headspace would alter my concerns in this particular case, scooter. Is there anything to be concerned about or not, in your opinion?

Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

I am not seating and crimping in a single step; I have a Lee factory crimp die as the last stage on the turret press.

Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

Oh man, I apologize. Please suggest the correct terminology or, by all means, refrain from reading. I hope you did not feel compelled to continue to read past the point of what was tolerable for you.

Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

It's that sarcasm? I cannot tell. Is there something to be concerned about here?

Nonsensical Headspace Measurements on 223rem cases...??

Thanks for the help, guys. I took some additional data in totally unprepped cases... So, here is some additional data, which indicates that my initial measurements prompting this thread might have been erroneous in some way (maybe not zeroing out the mic, etc., etc.,?). I took twenty cases...
