I watched this one until he was 5 1/2. Where I hunt there have been “stories” of giants getting taken out of season, so I didn’t wait the one more year. He was about like your buck was when he was 3 1/2. With good nutrition and a little luck he might get to the size of mine. Mine was 166 6/8th...
If I had to put my money on one bullet to drop an elk, I would use a Nosler partition. It was made for stopping large animals and while it’s nearing 100 years old, it’s still getting the job done.
I’ve had great luck with the Winchester Ballistic Silver Tip ammo in 95gn also. Consistent 3/4” groups at 100 yards are the norm. But the ammo is pretty pricey. Around $43.99 the last time I bought a box of 20.
Could use a little help for a newbie. I can find all kinds of information on neck tension for competition shooting reloading, but nothing on neck tension for hunting. For those that reload, what is a good neck tension to hold your bullet in place with all of the bumping, jumping and climbing...
I Put a VX 3i on my Tikka 7mm RM and was very surprised just how good the scope is, especially just how clear the glass is all of the way out to the edges.
I have both and I have had lots of people comment on how much clearer and sharper (all of the way to the edges) the Leupold VX-3i is. I have a couple of new Varmint rifles and the VX-3i scopes will be going on them. (The Vortex and Leupold that I have now are mounted on 2 different 7mm RMs.)
While I love my Kimber .45, I wouldn’t trade my Tikka 7mm RM for a Kimber rifle + $$$. My Tikka has been a good performer (consistent 3/4” groups with factory ammo. 150g Winchester Ballistic Silver tips) after break-in and should only get better. I wanted a Kimber and friends talked me out of...
I have a 1982 Remington 700 BDL in 30.06. Recently it has went from a good .90" shooter to very poor performance, without any changes to the rifle. I'm considering a new custom barrel in 30.06 or a change to 6.5 X .284 Norma. I wouldn't mostly use this rifle for Whitetail and other like-sized...
