Would you hunt whitetail (southeastern) deer using .223 Remington and if you would, what load would you use?...max. range approx. 350 yds...most shots 200-300 yds.. I'm considering it, but don't want to be a dumba$$. Yes, it's legal in my state of residence.

For deer, I have used factory loaded Hornady 130 gr. SST. The bullet has performed outstanding on all shoulder/body shots and also outstanding on a marginal brisket shot on one deer - the bullet expanded fast enough and well enough that it tore open the chest cavity enough to give a clean kill.

I'm considering swapping my .243 Win. Savage barrel over to .223 - mainly for target shooting. I've discovered that the barrel life of a .243 pretty much sucks. Any opinions or discussion on long-range shooting (maybe F-class and even varmints out to 1,000) with the .223?
