What type of rifling for a 260AI?

Hey guys, I am planning on building a 260AI platform with a pac nor barrel. It will be 26 inches with a 1:8 twist, my only predicament now is what type of rifling do I get? I can choose 3, 5, or polygonal. I plan on shooting 140 grain bullets which should stabilize fine with a 1:8, however I...

Pics of Berger Bullets NOT Performing????

Put a polymer tip on it and you get better BC and better expansion. Problem solved.

    22-250 ai

I have been reading about the ackley improved cartridges and have gathered that the shoulder on them increases accuracy due to improved powder burn. Would it be worth it to ream my 22-250 chamber to an ai chamber or will I not notice that great of an accuracy benefit?

Pics of Berger Bullets NOT Performing????

Twist rate is 1-11, same as the 270, in the OP on that 68forums thread the member who shot the caribou has the bullet he found and it looks EXACTLY like the bullets posted on this thread, leading me to believe it may be the thick nose OR the tip being obstructed. He put 2 shots into that...

Pics of Berger Bullets NOT Performing????

I understand that completely, but could it be possible that some of your bullets for your 338 that aren't expanding have a similar thick nose? And the 270 win has 563 ft. lbs at 1k and the 6.8 has 387. I am not disputing the fact that they perform differently at different velocities, I am just...

Pics of Berger Bullets NOT Performing????

Velocity is 2400-2500 and the bullet is made for a 270 win. not a 6.8. Point is manufacturing processes are probably identical and I guarantee that if you cut your bullet lengthwise you will find that the jacket is thick at the nose. Those 6.8 bullets still destroy everything, they just act weird.

Pics of Berger Bullets NOT Performing????

I think I know the reason why, I use the 6.8 spc and am active on the 68 forums and one member has posted results about his bergers. Apparently the copper jacket is extremely thick at the front of the bullet causing it to yaw on impact and exit rear end first, or not way and just keep trudging...

Best factory .22-250 rifle out of the box

I wouldn't go with an ar if you are looking for accuracy, they are nice though. I would go with a different caliber too, probably a 6.8 spc.

    6.5 Creedmoor and others...

I am actually mistaken, it shot the 140 grain bullets at the same spped as the 260, I was looking at the 6.5x47 lapua which was with 123 grain bullets. Here is the article if you would like to read it. 6.5mm Shootout: .260 Remington vs. 6.5x47 Lapua vs. 6.5 Creedmoor

    6.5 Creedmoor and others...

The faster twists are better for heavier bullets. I am not sure the grain weight but you should be good with a 140 grain bullet. A longer barrel will increase velocity to a point, if you have an extremely long barrel you will lose velocity because you wont have enough powder to burn in the...

    6.5 Creedmoor and others...

@hyper Just saying but I read an article where a guy tested the 260 vs. the creedmoor and the creedmoor was 200fps faster. Did you ever take into account your elevation also and the elevation that the creedmoor was tested at? You may have less atmospheric pressure making your bullets fly faster.

    Calipers

My dad has a dial caliper that is older than me. Really nice and it has an adjustbale zero, so you will never lose zero, and you can check case uniformity with it also.

    First LR Setup

I will most likely be using it on p dogs, yotes, antelope, and deer. I don't know what my max range will be (all dependent on how good I can shoot).

Best factory .22-250 rifle out of the box

I personally like cz. You may not like them because they aren't Amercian made but they sure are a solid precision rifle. The savage is also. It is all up to preference. If you are going to hand load I would reccommend staying around 50grn bullet weight if you have a 1 in 14 twist.

    First LR Setup

Hey guys I am looking into getting my first long range setup. I was looking at a cz 550 varmint in .308 with a laminated stock and a Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50. My brother has this scope on a Remington 5r and he says it is amazing. Just wondering what the pros think about this.
