338 Excalibur brass group buy-Interest Thread

Since this post is talking about the 338 Excalibur which doesn't happen often I would like to show you guys probably one of the only 338 Excalibur test barrels. I bought this straight from A-Square ammunition when they had their closing auction.

    Barrel Fluting

If you want to have a benchmark barrel fluted have benchmark do the fluting. If they won't flute a used barrel then it is probably best to not have it fluted.

    Barrels for CZ-527

I have built a couple of them and I would stick with something that is about 1" diameter at the tenon and tapers down to .8" ish at 22-24" at the biggest. The action is small, the action bolts are small and you really don't want to hang a 8# barrel off the tiny action. I have built 17fb and 20...

    mill/lathe combo

The mill/lathe you listed will do neither. You really need to buy 2 separate machines. Pick up a good 10x36ish lathe and a good bridgeport style mill. Expect to have over $20k in the combo with some tools.

    Savage rebuild help!!!!

I have built many wsm rifles on stand shank short actions. You do need to shorten a bolt head if you want to use a long action bolt. PT&G also makes new correct bolts for it. They will function fine also, the only reason why you would want to go long action is for a longer COAL.

    6.5 Sin

No more updates, winter has hit hard and we have had many days of -10 and colder temps. Powder was us 869. I am going to try some 50bmg on the next loads.

Which long action savage is a large shank

A side note, not all Rum and WSM actions were large shank. I have a 116 300 Rum that is a small shank and I have seen others. But as geargrinder has said the small shank actions are perfectly fine for rum/wsm builds.

    SOLD/EXPIRED WTS Brux #3 Fluted, Chambered 6.5x47

It might be able too, but it has to be very hard on the reamer. Plus you would be cutting the coating off of the throat where you really want to have it.

    SOLD/EXPIRED WTS Brux #3 Fluted, Chambered 6.5x47

I wouldn't want anyone touching a Nitrided barrel with any one of my reamers

What to build: Rem 700 LA magnum bolt face

I would sell it as is. If you put a bunch of parts into a build with a lot of time and money, especially paying someone to do the work you will most likely loose money. Unless the rifle is built exactly the way that a potential customer wants you will probably have to discount it to be able to...

anybody ever build an 80% 700 reiever

The JP is far from an 80%, but I have a blank sitting on my work bench that I am going to try. I think it will be a fun project and I am going to do mine all on a manual mill. A machine center with a 4th axis would be ideal but sometime one needs a little challenge.

How to handle problems with gunsmith?

Sounds like shotty gunsmith if you could even call him that. Did he damage your barrel? Maybe, but that might be hard to prove. You can say that he did not do that work that you paid for and should be able to get all that money back. I would try for that and if you get that back you would be...

    80% Rem 700 Clone action for $80

I saw this project and I was/am interested. What I don't like about it is that he has no information about how they will be machined. No description on the drilling, reaming, broaching, EDM, etc. Looks to me like he is just kind of shooting in the dark on it. I have yet to see anything from his...

Gunsmith near Cortez, CO? need 5.56 NATO reamer

What kind of rifle does he need rechambered with a nato reamer? The only chamber I would ever cut with that is an ar barrel that will just shoot nato ammo. If it is an ar barrel I wouldn't rechamber it. If it is a bolt gun then why does he want to use that chamber?
