New member.. Kimber 8400 300WSM accuracy??

My 8400 would not even shoot that well until I did a lot of work on it. Accuracy of what you speak is average for most guns. There are exceptions but not by brand in my experiance. Limit yourself to 250 yds. That works for me.

Back from my elk hunt, I'm just sick

Re: Back from my elk hunt, I\'m just sick Thats the same Accubond that Allen Day had problems with in Africa. He posted that report and then a follow up on those bullets when be brought them up to Nosler and was there as they were tested. He shot them from a 338 WM. The posts are on...

    Which Caliber for deer? .224 - .264

Use as powerful a load as you can. The thing is that if the kill does not go well and the animal flops all over the hill the kid will get sick of it. Any adult should be able to shoot a 260 or 7mm-08 or even a 308. Get one of those and download the practice ammo for now. We owe it to the...

    Montana actions/barrels

I got a Montana M1999 SS SA mag last spring on the $350 prototype program. After sending the first one back due to maching damage I got one that has all the surfaces as cast. This means that surfaces like the cocking cam on the bolt has a cast surface. I requires great force to operate the...

    Need new dies.....

Sakofan, Don't turn necks for a factory chamber. It just makes extra work. Buy a set of Lee Collet dies. They will size necks wtih the least runout. For FL sizing buy a Redding "S" type FL die without the bushing. When you have loaded up some rounds measure the diameter of a loaded neck and...

55gr game king vs 55gr blitz king

The .224" 55 gr Game King is not a game bullet. They are misnamed. They are a varmint bullet just like the newer 55 gr Blitz King. Sierra has been a leader in misnaming bullets. However Leupold has taken the lead in screwing things up with VXVVXXvvxxzzzz/ [ 02-03-2004: Message edited by...

    ruger #1

Stephen, I had a #1S in 300 WM as my long range big game rifle for over a decade. The rife was capable of MOA with the load that came with it and there was no reason to fool around with that!. I finally sold it as the trigger pull was rough. An old M 70 was offered to me in 300 mag so I have...

Redding Bushing Dies Vs RCBS ?

samson, RCBS dies have been the dies that all others are measured against for almost half a century. They are outstanding products and the company is just as good and it stands behind them. If you have any problems with your cases then tell us about what concerns you and we can offer specific...

    Pre-64 Rebarrel ?

It's true that the .300 WM is tight in a 3.36" magazine. Too bad Winchester got beat to the market by the .308 Norma Mag. Some other options are the 7mm RM, 257 Weatheby (ugh), .338 WM and the WSM's. Find a few WSM cases and see if they will stack and feed out of your magazine. Given the...

    Why no 7mms?

For target shooting there are more match bullets in 6.5 mm. For hunting perhaps the greatest long range hunter of them all shot the 7 mm Mashburn Super. So did Warren Page. Read "Game Loads and Ballistics for the American Hunter" by Bob Hagel. Lots of common sense in that book unlike what you...

How much variance should I accept in my brass?

Jerry Teo makes a point that I had not thought of but having read it on the net a month or so ago I agree with his point. One variation that I think that does matter is neck wall thickness variations. Sorting this way and hopefully not having to turn may be more effective. Such variation must...

    6.8 x 43 mm ?

Yea bring back the 30-06! One of the oldest members of our club just passed away. Joe J. was a marine who fought in the S. Pacific against the japs. He said they were issued AP for the Garands as it would penetrate their bunkers made from logs better. Just getting my digs in on that M-16...
