My cousin has a Ruger .44 carbine built in 1973. Over twenty years ago he and a buddy were (in my cousin's own words) really dumb and broke the infamous tab off the front of the trigger housing. It's been sitting ever since, a bag of lonely parts in a big plastic bag with no hope for the future...

I feel the longer barrel swings & points better for trap shooting, but the velocity difference between a 30" and 28" barrel is relatively tiny. Long time back a gun article described how the author took a bolt action 12 gauge goose gun with a 32" barrel and cut the barrel down 2" at a time...
