    Bore sighting

When helping an inexperienced shooter zero their rifle I'll have them shoot at 25 yards vs doing the bore sight. It gives them a chance to get settled into the rifle for when we stretch out the yardage. Typical Minnesota deer rifle works out about 1" to 1 1/2" low at 25 for a 100 yard zero. For...

    Reloading Injuries

On those rare occasions where I'm handling a single stage press not bolted to a bench (bought at a gun show, helping somebody get set up, etc.) no matter how careful I am it seems like they live for trying to trap my fingers when gravity works the ram.

    Bear country pistol

On hunting or fishing trips in Alaska bear country I carry a standard frame Redhawk in .45 Colt with a 5 1/2 barrel. The beefy cylinder on that gun handles my handloads of 335gr. LBT hardcast at 1100 fps. Got a good Bianchi holster that I can wear strong side or in a cross draw. I grew up on...

    Ruger .44 Carbine Trigger Housing

My cousin has a Ruger .44 carbine built in 1973. Over twenty years ago he and a buddy were (in my cousin's own words) really dumb and broke the infamous tab off the front of the trigger housing. It's been sitting ever since, a bag of lonely parts in a big plastic bag with no hope for the future...

What is the advantage of a 30" bbl over a 28" bbl

I feel the longer barrel swings & points better for trap shooting, but the velocity difference between a 30" and 28" barrel is relatively tiny. Long time back a gun article described how the author took a bolt action 12 gauge goose gun with a 32" barrel and cut the barrel down 2" at a time...
