Any recent preferred barrel blanks reports?

I have a video, but not sure how to post those. It’s about a 3” gouge that ended in that burr in the picture. I do have some tubbs but haven’t tried that. May at lease get rid of the burr, gouge will still be there. It’s about 4” down from the muzzle. It’s a sponsor, I miss spoke on that...

Any recent preferred barrel blanks reports?

Just seeing this thread. I have exactly one preferred barrel. It has a huge gouge in the rifling that grabs pieces of cotton patches and leaves cotton in the barrel. Even with that I’d still give them a try again. Their customer service was great. Said they’d replace the barrel blank at no...

    300WSM build opinions.

Go long or XM at a minimum. I think, pulling this out of the cobwebs in my head while I wait for it to get light turkey hunting, a properly throated WSM for the 215 Berger is .188 freebore. I didn’t know much when I had my first custom built, so I went a .088 freebore. It’s perfect for the...

    This kinda sucks….

I’m living there with you right now. Lost the reloading room in the house, so built a room in my shop. Straight man cave. AC/heat, couch, TV. Only thing missing is a bathroom. Room was completed 1 month before my son was born. He turned 7 months today. The room sits unchanged, unpacked...

    Change in weatherby brass

I had the same issue about 3 years ago. Bought 50 virgin brass and 40 loaded, both Weatherby ammo and brass. The head stamps said the same thing, but the font was a little different. Same exact charge, one firing on each, the loaded ammo brass gave me around 200 fps less than the virgin...

    Cooking Hogs?

I was recently reading some forums on here and it sounds like a lot of people who kill them to eradicate the for pest control don’t eat them. I myself have always eaten them. Personally treat them just like deer. Honestly, prefer the 50-75 pounders over deer. I’ve never tried the bacon...

245 grn Shock Hammer swamp buck

Shot a smaller Florida swamp buck this morning with my 35 Whelen using the 245 grn shock hammer. Here’s my short review of bullet performance. Bullet impact was around 2140 fps. Hard quartering too, 95% facing me. Bullet entered front crease between right shoulder and neck, traveled entire...

6 Dasher with light bullets and barrel length

I have a 22” 6 dasher I was shooting lighter non-lead bullets in. Using Lapua 6BR brass then fire formed. I prefer shooting the Berger 105, but when CA went lead free I needed a cheaper bullet I could plink squirrels with and shoot a coyote in a pinch. I started using the 62 grn varmint...

    Pressure washer for fleshing hides?

I’ve done it multiple times on gator hides. Makes a giant mess, you will have chunks of meat and sinew in your hair if you don’t wear a hat. But it is super effective. Of note 3200psi injected through a 10 deg nozzle point blank into the back of your hand will earn you a nights stay in the...

    Cartridge debate!

I would have to go with @RB II here. LA 300PRC all the way. If you had a XM I’d go 300WSM (as I did). If you decide on the WSM get a freebore to support. I think it’s .188” for the 215 Berger, but don’t quote me on that.

    458 Socom

Yeah that was pretty impressive. Those Lehigh require a 1-10 twist. If you’re wanting to shoot something like that I’d get a 1-10, don’t think it’d harm any lighter bullets. No way you’re going to spin one apart my rpms at SOCOM speed.

    458 Socom

Yeah 1-14 twist seems to work fine. Only shot them out to 100 yds, but not keyholeing so figure they’re stabile enough. Length is around 1.422”. I’m using 22 grn IMR 4198 and it’s right at 1000fps when shot through my hybrid 46M.
