In my book the 300 wby is the best elk gun around. I re-barreled, re-stocked and custom muzzled braked my 89 model (2012). The brake made shooting it pleasant. Accurate as ever 1/2 moa.

I rebuilt my mark v almost like yours. Would not shoot 168s, shot 175s better, shoots Barnes 180 tsx 1/2 moa. I would stop putting all crap in my barrel.
My little bitching: I watch guys buy a caliber and instantly start it for bullets best designed for the next larger caliber, I would save money and buy a 338.
I would that 90+ percent of hunters can’t hit an elk at 600 yards, but if you are going to try, be a sportsman gets caliber that will kill at that distance. 300 am or my preference 300 wby. You won’t like the recoil of these bullets so put a good brake on your gun.
