Jim Shockey Learns VX-6 Lesson the Hard Way

I quit watching the outdoor, sportsmen etc.... Channels a couple years ago. Not interested in what is going on at Drury or Kiskey's farms. Love to drag some of these television celebrities in the public woods in Louisiana or Texas that I hunt... Shockey is one of the most traveled hunters I am...

    No RED LOCTITE !!!!

I never have either. Most of my rifles have Talley lightweights & I use a fat wrench to set my screws at 20 in-lbs. Blue LOCTITE on bases & torque to 25 in-lbs. Been using this system for about 15 years with zero failures....

    No RED LOCTITE !!!!

I'm sure most are already aware of this, just a reminder....DO NOT use red LOCTITE on bases or rings ! I got ahold of a friends rifle & he had put the stuff on both the rings & bases. Applying heat with a torch got the rings off, & had to drill out two of the base screws. I use the blue stuff...

    Axis II in 6.5 creedmoor

You picked an awesome caliber, both for potential accuracy & hunting applications. I own 2- Savage 11 LWH & Ruger American Predator. Both will shoot .5" with most ammo. The caliber is very user friendly for those who don't handload. Most factory ammo I've tried will shoot as well as my developed...

    How 'bout scopes that disappointed?

I've had to have the magnification ring changed out on two of my older Leupold vari-x III's due to tightness. Customer service was great...quick turnaround & no questions. I've also had 2 Burris signature series go back due to debris in the reticle after just a few rounds. Again, great...

Kimber Adirondak in 6.5 CM load data?

My savage 11 6.5 creed with a 20" bbl seems to like faster POWDERS. Velocity is irrelevant in my gun, in fact it likes max loads. Varget & BLC-2 are great in my rifle

    Parallex vs focus...hunting

I just used a white fine point sharpie to make a "dot" on both the eyepiece & parallex adjustment for my index marks. Looks like factory & should hold up better than tape I hope.

    Parallex vs focus...hunting

Good point, & I did that when initially setting the reticle focus, along with maximum magnification. After setting reticle focus, I'm getting a blurry picture on higher magnification AFTER dialing out parallex & finding it necessary to again either adjust the eyepiece or refocus the objective &...

    Parallex vs focus...hunting

Thanks wildcatter, I figured 100 yards was my best place to start, & I'll put a witness mark on the focus knob. According to the long winded post, i am setting up my ocular properly...:) My question was- is it OK to readjust the ocular if necessary after dialing parallex out &...

    Parallex vs focus...hunting

Just purchased a Zeiss hd5 3-15 x 42 with z-plex reticle. I have it mounted on a RAR Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor, primarily to be used for hunting. This scope has side parallex adjustment which I thought would be handy for distance shooting. No yardage markings on the dial (which makes sense)...

    SWFA 5 - 15 x 42 for Ruger Amer. Predator

I went with the Zeiss hd5 3-15x42 for a 6.5 creed predator I bought last week. Got a "as new demo" for $669.00 & with the $150.00 mail in rebate, I consider it a steal ! If the scope was a demo I can't tell from looking at it...

6.5 CM Ruger American Predator accuracy

Just bought a RAR predator in 6.5 Creedmoor yesterday. Waiting on Zeiss 3-15x to mount & will post results. Ordered Talley rings as well. Really like the basic yet different design of this action. Also appreciate the heavier sporting taper barrel putting the balance forwards. For $415.00...i...

Factory Rem 700- short chamber ?

Had builder look at rifle....headspace is fine. He said to just let the bolt cam headspace the tight new brass & fire form it. Never be an issue after that (which I've confirmed). I'm having the rifle re-crowned, action trued while the barrel is off, & pillar/glass bed. It has one of the older...
