I've shot elk with a 25-06, a 340 Weatherby and a few in between. They all do the job, but the 340 drops them in their tracks. I've never had one go more than a few steps with it. The 06 was equally as deadly, but that elk was running for a bit, and they cover a LOT of ground in very little...

Hardest part about Antelope in Wy is making sure you are in the correct area. Hunting us usually done by truck, so you cover a lot of ground pretty quick. Now with phone GPS is shouldn't be to hard. If you can shoot 300 yards, antelope is an easy hunt...

If you reload, the 30-06 with a 130 bullet can be made with light recoil. My 13 year old daughter shoots one with a break. She came from a .243 and says it's not a noticeable difference in recoil.

Hard to beat a Weatherby Ultralight in 30-06 for a out of the box gun. Accurate and light, and customer support has always been great for me.
