    New squirrel rifle

We rabid squirrel hunters are always looking for the next best rifle we must get. For some of us, it involves a higher power scope and rifle, leaving .22 rifles in the dust. As soon as the .17 HMR hit the news and for sale, I grabbed a Savage 93 and overhauled it, and never looked back. That...

Some if it there is tough squirrel hunting! At Jerimiah, KY, it is worked out coal strip mining. I was hunting with a pal from there, Ron Back. Early and cool the first morning, he warned me to watch for copperhead snakes as we climbed a big rubble pile. I almost got bitten on my hand by a big...

I wish I could dig up some! There are a number of outfits selling mammoth ivory online and it is legal.

Thanks, Calvin! I figured out an easy way to inlay the ivory. I used a sharp 3/8" drill bit and drilled both sides of the handles. I then used a 3/8" plug cutter on ivory and inserted the ivory plugs epoxied into the holes. Brownell's Acra Glas gel is all I use for epoxy and have used it many...

I still work beyond retirement age to support my hobbies, like another newly invented must have best fishing pole or the next newly invented gotta have hunting rifle. Wife is retired and also happy, being an avid shopper. I have two great long time pals that run a private owned gun store. One of...

I live atop of the Mississippi River bluff in SE Iowa. We have a lot of game here in town, especially here in the north end of town. Our town population of squirrels is great but the population of them has greatly decreased out of town due to so many varmints. Since great powers invented the...

    Franklin F17 L WSM

I really don't have much info to offer pertaining to your choice of rifles but the .17 WSM is fantastic for varmint shooting. I am not a big fan of AR hunting rifles. Semi auto, yes. I have a semi auto ordered, a Savage A17 Sporter .17 WSM and it will suffice as for my hunting. I do have two...

Our squirrel season ended Jan. 31. I turned 79 years old today and still work full time and am anxious for our Iowa hunting season to open early September. I am no longer a patrolman of 30 years on the military installation where I work but now help build munitions for the military. Life is...

It sure is! I work with a fella from Clark County and he offers an open invite to hunt some of his uncle's properties. I am very temped to do so. I used to deer hunt every year in Clark County until some old wounds and injuries caught up with me. We work at the Army IAAAP in Middletown, IA...

Most of us go for head shots. Some fellas use sub sonic and some of us prefer high velocity fodder but the game is the same, one shot, one kill. In 1964 I spent a week in Chicago with Fred Bear at the NSGA show and convention, in the guest/buyer section. Fred and I were standing by his standing...
