    Kids bucks

The kids are off to a good start to deer season. 11 year old son got his first crossbow kill on 7 pt. 15 year old daughter kill a nice buck with 6mm remington and 100 gr hornady during youth rifle. Son is still looking for one for a shoulder mount.

    My sons first deer

Congratulations. Hunting with kids is a blast. I don't even deer hunt much anymore. My kids handle most of the deer hunting.

    7mm bullet tests

I agree and so did the tech from hornady about the 162 eldx and 7-08. Do I need to look at the 160 accubond for a do it all load? I've got a whole safe full of rifles with specific purposes. I'm just really enjoying this tikka roughtech 7mm mag. Light enough to carry and shoot off hand, big...

    7mm bullet tests

We take quite a few shoulder shots, so I need something that holds together. Overall, I'm usually pleased with Speer hot core or hornady interlock at 260, 7mm08 and 308 velocities. I haven't loved sst or nbt in light for caliber loads on shoulder shots. I like the gold dot in 6.5 Grendel and 6.8...

    7mm bullet tests

I did call Hornady and they still make interbonds in limited quanity, just not very often. I told the guy I was looking for a coyote to elk load with the priority being accuracy then weight retention. He said the eld x is designs for 300+ yards as Can1010 said. He suggested I try to cx.

    7mm bullet tests

Thanks for the offer. I have about 35 of the 139 gr. Should be enough for a few hunts..

    7mm bullet tests

I shot a few 7mm bullets into 2.5 gallon jugs of water. I really hoped the eldx would hold together better. Why did they quit making the interbond?

    Rifle/cartridge choice for daughter

I loaded up some 139 gr interlocks with 42 gr of varget. 10 shots at 100 yards. Just over 2 inch worst to worst. Best 8, 1.75. Take any 3 and you could cover with a quarter. Lots of guys would lie and throw out the outliers and call it a sub moa for 3. Group had some vertical stringing. Probably...

    Rifle/cartridge choice for daughter

Yes. She is left eye dominant and shoot left handed.

    Rifle/cartridge choice for daughter

Thanks for all the responses. Lots more than I expected. Here's a little more info for the discussion. She has killed 12 whitetail with rifle, blackpowder and compound bow. Also a mix of coyote, turkey, geese, duck, quail and dove. Several rifle kills on deer at 150-200 yards. She prefers neck...

    Rifle/cartridge choice for daughter

What do you not like about the interbond? I don't have much experience with it. If I don't use it, I would likely go with a 140 gr partition, if I can find some.

    Rifle/cartridge choice for daughter

I'm not too worried about the recoil or noise. She shoots ATA and ffa shotgun shooting sports. She shoots 50-125 rounds of 12 gauge a couple times a month.

    Rifle/cartridge choice for daughter

Thanks for all the comments and tips. We did a little work out back this evening with 7mm08 and 10/22 1. Walk around with 7mm08. Pick out tree, tire, etc. Dry fire, stay on target, cycle action and dry fire again. 2. 10/22 double tap 2.5 gallon jug at 50 yards off stix. Move forward and double...

    Rifle/cartridge choice for daughter

I have an opportunity to take my 15 year old daughter on a private land elk hunt this fall. Trying to decide what is the best combo to carry. Here are the current setups. Obviously scopes can be swapped and different loads developed. Ruger american LH 7mm08 18" barrel with 2-7x32 vortex viper...
