Hey guys. I've been told that a #1 contour barrel can be just as accurate as a #3 or 4 contour barrel. The only difference will be in how quickly the barrel heats/cools and therefore only matter on shot strings. What's your opinion? [ 12-18-2002: Message edited by: Nebraska ]

Would a 264 Win Mag Rem 700 with a factory 26" barrel be worth my time?

I'd like your opinions on these two rounds for use on deer sized game.

Thanks for the info. The gun will be used mainly for hunting deer sized game. In my area we can legally hunt from a 1/2 hour before sunrise to a 1/2 hour after sunset. I'll be using the gun standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone.

I like the idea of having more light gathering ability in a scope but I see many of the long range folks recommending 40mm scopes instead of 50mm scopes. What is the benefit of having a scope capable of fitting in low rings as opposed to one requiring high rings. Please be as specific as you can.

The mil-dot reticle looks interesting but I've never used one. What do you guys think of it for use on big game? Also, is this something that would be better in an illuminated reticle?

Where should I go to have a Ruger M77 accurized?? I like Model 700s and I'll probably be accurizing one of those too but I really want a 3-position safety and I'm not a big fan of Winchester. If this is a poor investment or an exercise in frustration, please let me know.
