Wolf Hunting... which state is BEST???

Congrats! 17 is amazing! I've had zero luck hunting them. I've caught 5 trapping though. The only guy I know that has had consistent luck with wolves is about 25 years old, in great shape with knees that still work! He has shot 5-6 of them at least. Most of his shots have been long, one was...

Wild wolves on my trail cameras are very timid also.

Wolf Hunting... which state is BEST???

Nice! 115 pounds is a dandy!! 125 pounds is a really big one. I have a picture of mine on the back of a friend's side x side, it fills it all the way across, but it's on my phone. I'm not sure how to put it on here?

Wolf Hunting... which state is BEST???

Got this one in a snare this year. He is a male. The pelt measures 67 inches from nose tip to the base of the tail. The fur market says over 66 inches is a 3x large.......it weighed 80 pounds. They are not as heavy as people claim. This is my 5th wolf, none over 80 pounds. The black one in...

Wolf Hunting... which state is BEST???

Actually, they average 70 pounds. Jack Whitman, wolf biologist and well known wolf trapper, told me the biggest he could prove in Alaska, or Idaho, was 125 pounds. He said those 150-200 pound ones you hear about are all caught in bars.

Wolf Hunting... which state is BEST???

This is an old and stupid argument. These wolves have been here now since 1995....near 30 years....are you even that old?

    Rifle for 10 year old.

Personally, growing up Dad had us do the "Barny Fife" thing about carrying 1 round in our shirt pocket rabbit hunting with a 22. If we missed, we might not get a second shell given to us. If we missed, he would tell us the reason he thought we missed first. Depending on our attitude and...

    Explain This Please

Neat seeing the vapor trail and bullet impact! It looks too high to me? Above the spine hitting nothing vital would be my guess. Antelope are not very tough. The few I have shot went down fast.

    I love old Wiley E.!

    Clean Loaded Brass?

I was taught that also when I started reloading 35 years or so ago.....maybe more? Maybe it's true, or maybe just an "old wives tale"?

    Clean Loaded Brass?

I'm a big fan of Black Powder cartridge rifles. Loading them with black powder, you should use a drop tube at least 24 inches long. Pouring the powder through the tube compacts the powder, and I believe the dust settles more at the bullet end of the case, but that is just a guess. For...

    Clean Loaded Brass?

That could be. Buffalo Bore has some really hot loads, but it is probably the type of powder and not compressed I'm guessing. Really, I don't see any way one could fire. Other than the bullet backing out, I doubt it can hurt anything.

    Clean Loaded Brass?

Tumbling loaded rounds seems like a terrible idea to me too, but a friend works for Buffalo Bore Ammo, and I worked for a smaller ammo factory.........both places tumble their loaded ammo as standard practice. Both are commercial ammo factories and consider it safe.

    Why the 7mm Rem Mag?

Shoot what you have and don't worry about it. There ain't any new animals, why do we need new cartridges? Every critter alive has been taken at one time or another with the older cartridges. 7x57 Mauser is awfully small and under powered compared to 7mm Rem. Mag, or 300 Mag, yet Bell shot a...
