  • Hey Lou,

We took a slightly different approach than most in that we avoided South Mtn altogether, however, I do know there are some great bucks out there. We camped a couple miles from Silver City, it was super cold! 10 degrees at night, come prepared no matter where you camp.

We hunted a lot on the benches and draws to the north of Hayden Peak (it's the tallest point in the Owhyee range)

One thing I will say is that you will have a great time with this hunt for sure, there literally wasn't a single spot that we glassed that didn't have deer.

    Are you brining ATVs?

When will you be coming up? There is a slight chance I could show you around a little depending on the timing.

Hey MtnBoy, I drew a November Unit 40 Mulie tag and have never been to the area. I was planning a scouting trip in Oct but lost my job and can't afford 2 trips out there. I'll go out 4-5 days early to scout. I hear the north and west drainages on South Mtn are good. But being 60 and with the difficulty in drawing tags, this will probably be my last mulie hunt. I'm going to be pretty picky since I have 3 weeks planned out there. Any suggestions on where to start and a good central location to camp? Any help will be greatly appreciated. If you ever get a desire to hunt anything here in Colorado let me know and I'll personally show you around. Thanks, Lou (303)988-5886
