    Favorite Deer Rifle

After a lot of years and searching for the perfect rifle, I have come to a conclusion. My perfect Deer rifle is a sporterized 1893 Mauser in 7X57.

Best overall powders for 25 06

I settled on 52 grains H3831SC and 117 grain Sierra GameKing. This is the most accurate that I have found for both of my 25-06 rifles. I am out past 500 yards taking Pronghorn in Wyoming.

Looking for a factory 280AI rifle.

You can always buy the gun that you want and have the barrel replaced and chambered for 280AI. I have 3 Mausers all chambered in 280AI.

I’d like to restock a model 70, not as many options as 700’s and clones.

I have been using Boyd Stocks for years and all have been great. The last one was for a Zastava Mauser and the fit was truly astonishing. It required a very little clean up prior to glassing it.

    tired of my 6.5 creedmoor

I use both the 257 Bob and the 25-06 for Pronghorn in Wyoming. the only consistent projectile that I found working in all 3 of my rifles is the Sierra 117g Gameking. The difference between the 2 calibers is that I am using the 25-06 out to 500 yards and I limit the 257 Bob to 300 yards and...

    7mm STW or 28 Nosler?

There are many other choices wit available brass for a new 7mm. If you want "MORE" then you should also consider the 7PRC and the 7RUM. If you are just trying to avoid the 7RM then perhaps you would consider the 7WSM, 7SAUM or even the 280AI. There are lots of 7mm options, but maybe you just...

    My 270/308 27-08.

I am curious, why? Why not simply use a 6.8 Western?

    25PRC or something else?

I hunt with a 25-06 exclusive for Pronghorns. I think it is too small for Elk and I use the Sierra 117g Gameking. If you are looking for something new and shiny, I would suggest that you look at the 6.8 Western. This round works well on everything in North America.

    458 SoCom AR

I've put several hundred rounds through mine with no magazine issues. I have modified magazines with new followers, but I think that the over-the-counter magazines simply work better. Both the 5 and 7 round magazines are available. BTW, it is a real hammer on white tails using Hornady Black...

    458 SoCom AR

I chose the 450 Bushmaster over the Socom because of the hunting regulations that require straight walled cartridges. My only suggestion would be to use an adjustable gas block and a brake to prevent damage to the lower.

Any Stock Finishers here ? I have a couple questions

I have been using unfinished stocks from Boyds for Years. Normally I would use a laminates stock for its rigidity. This said I have done a few in a natural wood. I have only one in the Black Walnut. In the beginning I used hand rubbed Tung Oil but depending on the color of the stock the Tung...

    Low recoil deer caliber

I read an article on American Hunter dot org this past week and they addressed this exact issue. First on their list was the 7mm.08 and in the small print said that it was somewhat equal to the 7X57 that has been around since 1893. I personally use the 7X57 and extremely successful with it...

    25 06

I have 2 X 25-06 rifles and they have their own personalities. I have hunted Pronghorns in Wyoming for over 10 years. I think the shortest distance that I encountered was 220 yards and the longest is out over 500 yards. The only bullet that has always been consistent in both rifles out past...

    Only 1 Rifle selection?

A brief comment. I have 3 X 280 AI's, only 1 280, only 1 7mm rem mag, only 1 7mm WSM and 1 7mm Ultra Mag. Oh, forgot to mention i also have 1 7mm Mauser. The 280AI and the 7mm Mauser are my go-to rifles. I load all of these with Fail Safe bullets from Combined Technology. I know that they...

Ok I am not a big fan of the 6.5 Creedmore

I am fascinated with the lack of knowledge about this round and the lack of knowledge of what it takes to hunt Elk. The BS about shot placement may work shooting off of a bench but it does not happen in the wild. If this were true we could hunt with a 22 and shoot for the eye and a direct path...
