    Barrel/stock question

I have an older from maybe late 70's Rem 700 ADL in 7 mm mag. I am not happy with the cycling to unload it and always had issues trying to get the bolt to pickup a round. been wanting to change to the BDL style. Now if I change out the stock and add a trigger and then not satisfied with overall...

Reaching Into the Past - The 219 Donaldson Wasp

Sorry if this does not apply to actual shooting but I have a story about the wasp which I remember from when I was about 5 or 6 in the middle 1960's. My dad was a tool & die maker for the military cannon factory close to our home. he had a friend that was a well known gunsmith. My father would...

    Side Arm for Grizzly Country

I was in the camp that had the Mark Uptain incident last month. Heard the entire story from the camp cook and some of it is not in the news. I am from upstate NY as is my buddy and son who were also on the hunt. Our guides carried either 44's,357's or 10mm. The older guide had the 357 and said...

Two Wyoming Bow Hunters Encounter Grizzlies

Kicked up a grizzly a couple weeks ago on a hunt. About 100' in front of us. Luckily he ran downhill. Apparently he/she had a late breakfast and not interested in us.

    Boned meat estimates

Well our trip is completed but with no elk meat to come home. By lunch time each day we were down to T-shirts. First 2 days they were bugling but would not come out of dark timber. Next 2 days no bugling at all. last afternoon of hunt they started to bugle again. 2 out of 5 hunters got their...

    Boned meat estimates

We will be taking as much of the trimmings allowed since we make jerky and the grinder has no problems with the front sinewy legs. We will take rib meat and the sheety type meat on the ribs if the guide lets us. We were told no ribs if near dark since we will be in grizz country. Just wanted to...

    Boned meat estimates

I am in upstate NY and that is roughly what we would get from a 150 lb dressed whitetail. My granddads were both butchers so my mom and dad knew how to butcher. Other than the tallow tasting ribs we saved it all. Silverskin ground up in jerky so there was no waste and you did not even know you...

    Boned meat estimates

3 of us are heading to Wyoming in 2 weeks. Hoping for the best. Will be southeast of Yellowstone. We will not be looking for trophys just legal elk. Any good estimates of how much boned out meat from an average size elk ? Wondering what we should take in the way of coolers.

7 mm mag bullet for Elk

I live in NY State so no online ordering for me. A buddy came to my aid. My gun shot well with a box of Hornady ELD-X 162 gr. Found some bullets and primers at a local shop and he is loading them up for me since I was able to help repair his bass boat. Will get back here and let you all know how...

7 mm mag bullet for Elk

I am by no means any authority on Elk and not planning on shooting over 300 yds, but if I put a bullet in the shoulder just behind the blade IMO if that bullet exerts all its energy within the lung area how would it go very far ? I figure if I shot my biggest buck 2 yrs ago while holding a...

7 mm mag bullet for Elk

At a 6" group @ 200 yds,I do not think I even want to take those with me. I did buy 4 boxes of 139 gr and a box of 154 gr sst bullets which was all the store had. Was going to pull the bullets , keep the cases and primers and jump up to the 154's.

7 mm mag bullet for Elk

I had bought Fed premium 168 gr berger bullets for an Elk hunt next month. Also bought the Rem Corlokt 150 gr along with Hornady American whitetail 139 gr. Unfortunately with the shortage of bullets these are my only choices. Well the 139 gr Hornady shoot very well and group at about 2.25 " @...
