I did some research a few years ago and you are right, carbon fiber is an insulator and can actually be slower to cool. Proof Research is suppose to have a process that dissipates the heat.
Should I add that I did not have this problem with the factory barrel. I guess I should assume that the factory barrel had a lot more freebore built in to eliminate this problem?

In my rifle the freebore should be the same whether I am shooting 165 or 180's if the COAL is the same............shouldn't it? Again I only had problems with the 180's sticking.

I too thought the lower the better (fairly new to all the technical stuff) so on my most recent rifle I put low rings on a picatinny, but I found it very uncomfortable to shoot. I had to raise the stock on my shoulder to get my eye aligned with the scope.
