    Rookie to Wyoming

The cactus is tuff to see when yur crawling on a stalk and it will mess u up..I learned hard way many hrs ago. I use pads on pant, elbow pads and sturdy elk gives (not thin elk gloves). Even when 95 plus! The little pear cactus quills will stay in you and r hard to get out..

Limitations of the 243 on antelope

Like most guys, I long range glass, belly crawl up close 1-200 yds unless they are real jumpy. They can be “skittish” at times in bigger groups. They are a small heart shot at 400 yds and 20 mph crossing winds. My avg distance on lopes is 1-200 yds and refuse to shoot on the run, period...

What’s your favorite caliber for deer?

25/06..back up rifle 280 AI. Banged up my rifles now and then when hunting hard country so it’s important to have a back up matched to the animal your hunting also..the 25 06 is in a sweet zone for deer. IMHO

    Cleaning your brass

Excellent video on comparing 3 technologies..with or without suppressors. I have the first two and probly use the corn cob tumbler method the most but learned from your video about the new technology. Thank you. I have been reloading for 50 years and wonder how they even fired fifty yrs ago...

    Magnum obsession seems real

With the virus going on lots of us have extra time on our hands and therefore chat bout no perfect answers to questions like this one. FOR ME, I shed my 338 win mag browning medallion bolt 2 years ago since I realized it just wasn’t necessary for my hunts anymore..I don’t hunt Grizz or Cape...

    Caliber for medium range Elk

You nailed it for me...it’s a coin flip between the 280ai and 300WSM for the job the original post called for. I take both on every elk hunt and each serves as back up for the other. I zero them at 300 and shoot 160 gr in 280ai and 180 gr in 300WSM. I never notice recoil in either when in...

    Kill the wolf?

Just to follow up, I hate seeing what’s been happening to so many areas in western states from heavy handed feds and judges that make a big mess of things..the bears, wolves, lions and coyotes are crazy overpopulated imho..don’t need studies and impact statements. Get out there and talk with...

Anyone here fans of the 25-06?

Lots of 25-06 fans on this site, me included. Be careful, you will lite up the CM guys and 260 guys, but when you really look carefully, there are reasons the 25-06 is still around, even though it’s not the latest shiny object.. lol

    Kill the wolf?

Any of the big predators that get way out of balance will cause big problems in time. Lions in many areas are out of balance imho. Not sure which is biggest problem In areas I hunt elk, mule deer and antelope in Montana, Idaho and parts of Wyoming but probly wolves are bigger problem today.

    Rem 700 LR 25-06

Good stuff from Pointman. I too find the Sierras very accurate and really effective on deer out to 400 yds. Also like the Accubond a lot. Once you find the right recipe you will love this cartridge for antelope, deer, and coyotes. I go bigger bore for elk even though I know many on this forum...

I am big 280 AI fan and I reload. Perfect cartridge for antelope/deer/elk combo hunts...great range bullets and vg ballistics.

    My Late WY Antelope

Great goat and when you find the older knobby character ones like yours it’s really special. I have used 25-06 for them most of time except when very windy and I want heavier bullet. Then I use 300 wsm with 150 gr bullet. Love hunting them in big open country. Very good eating too.

    Wind and Uphill/Downhill Shots

That is surely true and it can be a surprise at how much you must adjust downward. Especially with a big downwind howling down the draw or canyon. (Very typical in high country) Not a shot I can practice easily either shooting sharply uphill or downhill with 10-25 mph wind. I wud like to...
