I did seat the Bergers to magazine length. They still shot. I got one good group which I think was a fluke actually because I could never repeat it. Not anywhere near the way the Hornady's shoot out of my rifle. though. I guess I could have tried seating even even shorter than mag length. Never...
Just trying to come up with a comprehensive list of Good Long range bullets for the 338. So far, I have experience with:
250gr Berger - Advertised BC .682 - bullet ogive won't let me get close to the lands and still fit in the magazine.
300gr Berger - Advertised BC .818 - same problem as the 250...
Yeah, I was kind of thinking just going with the 6.5x284 would be more practical, without the modification. They are advertized as coming out pretty smoking fast, but after thinking for a while I'm thinking the velocity of the 6.5x284 is just fine. I understand the initial brass starting out...
I'm not really looking for something that will continue shooting forever. I am mainly wanting something that will be good for long range accuracy, but cheap to shoot. I wouldn't mind something like a .22 mag, but it doesn't have the range I want to be able to get out of it. Looking at prices the...
I'm thinking about getting a long range gun that will be cheap to shoot (compared to my 338 LM).
I'm thinking of going in the direction of a 6.5mm like the 6.5x284 Norma or maybe a 6.5x284 Tejas. I'm just wondering what everyone else's thoughts are on that. Also I'm wondering if I got a savage...
Ok, someone was actually telling me that last week. Although he was saying it didn't matter much past 24", I think he was probably thinking of cartridges more like a 308 though. The RUM is nice and big :)
Hey there, so I'm pretty set on building a 375 Tejas (possibly modified slightly, but essentially the same thing), The one thing I haven't decided on is barrel length. What would you all suggest? My father-in-law has a 31" barrel and I love how it shoots, I was thinking maybe 28", but I still...
338 bruce has a 31" barrel. I don't know how he gets them so fast but they are safe. He's now on his 4th reloading on all of his cases, still running strong.
I'm still juggling prices and so getting a custom action isn't completely off the table. I'm trying to do it all on a budget but I still want some quality equipment.
I would consider the 375/338 LM but I don't see much advantage over the RUM. Also if I go with the 375 Tejas I can use some of my...
I must add those CE bullets are great, I'm sure with those the 375 is a great LR caliber. I was there and very impressed by the performance of those bullets. They also expand very nicely on game as well.
(On an slightly unrelated note I think had I wanted to use enough bullets I would have...
Thanks everyone, the links/resources are great! I may end up just getting something new and changing the barrel(I'm still juggling prices, I want to be ready, and pretty much decided when as I can afford it towards to beginning of next year though)
Awesome thread. Thank you much for sharing.
I'm sure the answers to my questions are probably somewhere else in the forums but I haven't been able to find them so I'll post them here. What I'm thinking of building is a 375 RUM (with some adjustments). After looking at the costs of buying a rifle and modifying it or just building one from...
