Recommendations for a good 8mm Mauser load for whitetail deer?

Will not be for long distance use, but my friend wants to take his Father's WW2 K98k German Mauser back out in the woods some day, where his Father had liberated it from the battle of Pilsen, Czechoslovakia. Locale: Northern New England, for deer to 200+, shots in these woods are < 100-yards...

Does anyone know what happened to Meret Optical ?

I don't use the Template to position the 1st time, as I only make the Template after I figured out the correct placement - so I'm glad you asked! To clarify ... To Position the Hole - I'll get into my shooting stance, then look at whatever target I'm focusing at and take a Sharpie Marker and...

Does anyone know what happened to Meret Optical ?

Merit Optical says they are back in business, see www.meritcorporation.com But ... here's a simple, effective, and highly inexpen$ive DIY solution! Like many of us I'm sure, my vision - even corrected with eyeglasses - is NOT what it used to be. You may have seen these Merit optical apertures...

Can anyone tell me more about these shells?

I'd say it the old 44-40 Win lever action cartridge, from 1873 and on.

    3 shot groups…

What???????? My 30-cals will shoot one ragged hole ALL DAY LONG ... .. . . ... it's only when I fire a 2nd or 3rd shot that the group tends to open up!

    3 shot groups…

FYI, an easy way to do that is to run a few patches of 'Lock-Ease' down the bore. Erik Cortina, a noted F-Class champion, swears by it.

    3 shot groups…

So true! A few times a week at our range (that goes out to 600-yards) big black unmarked SUVs carrying any combination of FBI, Homeland Security or other Dept show up. The new guys run out the targets or work the pits, depending on what range they're shooting that day, whilst the others setup...

    What stock is this

Looks to me to be a Manners. But ID’ing the specific action, if youcan, might help you pin it down to a stock maker.

Anyone load pistol bullets on a single stage press?

Started on old 3-hole Lee turret press Would process all (50) in a batch of each operation Primed off press via Lee handheld prime tool Powdah by RCBS Lil' Dandy (love it, still use it!) When I got in the groove, I could do a a box in 20-25 minutes ... Now have the 4-hole turret press for those...

    Locks for your gun safe

It's most likely the numbers your using ... one should be low, another medium to high and another in-between ... plus vary the odd and evens. Surprised the locksmiths didn't mention that ...

How about an 'old school' long(er) range muzzleloader?

Not long distance like youse guys, but offhand @ 25-yards. My aiming point was at the bottom of the red bull, a 6 o'clock hold. Three in one ragged hole, one left, but the elevation was the same ... so I'll call the low one a flyer, even though I didn't call it ... loooooong lock time on these...

Waddya mean gas guns dont shoot?

Did you ever consider getting the barrel cryogenically treated? I once did that to a 24" long pencil Romanian PSL barrel that shot great ... until warm, then the shots would drift up and to the right. Sent it out to CryoFreeze, got is back, shot it until 'warm', then mag dumped 3 magazines...
