OTOH, lefty rifles are albatrosses on the used gun racks. I picked up a 270 WBY with a Zeiss Diavari scope for $800 a few years ago. And being a lefty is a good excuse for a custom rifle. Savage has a bunch.....Ruger, Remington a few....Tikka quite a few. You can do okay with a little looking.

You might look at a Kifaru tipi with a stove. Heating the inside of your tent for a while is a real game changer. The Kifaru bag is also very good, and yes, they have a 0 degree bag that is synthetic.

Quarter it, and load up the Kifaru pack. We do that with deer, elk and anything else. Deer are 1-2 trips depending upon size and the amount of uphill to get to my Jeep. Elk, 4 or 5. Antelope, 1. This year, I'm also trying an ebike with trailer for my elk hunt. We'll see how well that works.

I agree with ltbullken. Take it to the best gunsmith in your town. This is a life or death failure. Pay whatever it takes to get the gun right. If that's another trigger and $350, that's nothing compared to having the gun go bang and hurting someone.

What makes you think the problem is the barrel?

The real answer is that long range is defined by the distance where your odds of getting a one shot kill are better than 95%. For some, that is 200 yds. For me, considerably more. You can read between the lines here on larger numbers.

I consider long range anything past the point blank range of the firearm. For the 270/300 WSM rifles that I use, that means anything past 350 yds. Others will give you a different answer. I don't shoot anywhere near as far as some on this board do.

The only real difference between the 280 and the 270 is that you can load 175 grain bullets in the 280, and you can get a lot more factory ammo in the 270. Both differences are really quite minor. I doubt there is anything you can't kill with a 150 or 160 gr 270 that you can kill with a 175...
