A Couple Questions for the New Guys in Long Range Shooting

    1) The lack of long range near me (I live in the Denver metro, it's at least an hour in any direction before I can shoot past 100) 2) I'm stalled at ~500-600. I think it's a wind call issue, might be the SMK 168s. 3) More time on the range! (Don't we all) 4a) Kestrel. Didn't have the...

    Newbie Questions

Vortex scopes are also notoriously sensitive to overtorquing. You can bind up the turrets and flex the tube if you have the rings too tight. That may be why the groups have gotten worse since you mounted the new scope. No theories on why it was only a mediocre shooter originally.

    Trekking pole recommendations

+1 Black Diamond Their length adjustment mechanism is the easiest/most secure. I believe Leki is copying it now (the patent expired last year or the year before). It relies on cams to cinch down on the poles instead of expanders inside. Even the good expander-style poles (old Lekis) would...

    Bipod Focus Group

My company is also looking at making a notched leg variant of our bipods. Any complaints about Harris notched legs? Sometimes I'll bump mine and the legs will kick out to the first notch. Then I'm relying on gravity to extend the leg when I need it or I have to collapse the leg to load...

Have you seen these monopods? Stud Mount Monopod Sounds like that's in the ballpark of what you are looking for.

Best Platform for a first long gun

You'll get plenty of knock down even from a .308. It can drop elk at several hundred yards without much issue. They are pretty comparable rounds overall. As said before, with modern powders, the extra case size doesn't really matter as much. You will find plenty of powders hot enough to...

    Question about ladder testing ???

There's another post on how to find seating depth. A lot of good information on various ways to check your particular rifle (with special tools and without). http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f26/beginner-help-zeroing-seating-jump-143892/ Seating depth can make a huge difference in...

That would be pretty slick. I'll see what our design team can come up with. Thanks for the input. Hard to see the forest through trees sometimes. :)

    Carbon fiber stocks

^^ This will give you a strong, lightweight stock. You will want to make sure the supports are anchored securely, but the carbon fiber "canoe" is the right idea. Carbon fiber has a good strength-to-weight ratio and also has a certain amount of flex that prevents it from failing (to a point...

    Carbon fiber stocks

Carbon fiber gets most of its strength because it is a woven material. To my knowledge, it acts as a framework for the resin. You could dump carbon fibers into a resin stock, which would reinforce it (kind of like rebar, or particle board), but it would not be as resilient. In theory, you...

    Bipod Focus Group

I did some follow up research after your first post. It seems that KeyMod is pretty popular, but Magpul is pushing hard for their new MOE upgrade, M-Lock. Now that I know the background more comfortably, you were suggesting an adapter that would direct attach to these systems? Without the...

Thanks for the response. You brought up several good points that we haven't considered. How different are Keymod variants? I knew it existed, but didn't know about how much it is tweaked from manufacturer to manufacturer.

older marine wanting to get back into shooting

I prefer a synthetic/composite stock. When I take my rifle hunting, it's up in the mountains, so the weight I shave off is pretty beneficial. I have enough other gear I'm carrying (on my person and on my rifle) that taking a couple pounds off is worthwhile for me. Keep in mind what your...

older marine wanting to get back into shooting

+1 .308 My 700 can hit consistently at 700-800 yards, even in strong winds across the grasslands. I suspect the loss in accuracy after that is shooter error. Vortex makes good glass and the prices are very reasonable. I also have heard great things about their CS (though I've personally never...

    Bipod Focus Group

Hey everyone, Was hoping to get some thoughts/gauge interest on a couple of items my company is thinking about developing. Any interest in 6" - 9" Picatinny ready (quick attach/detach, similar to Larue Harris adapter, just without needing the adapter) bipods? We currently make it in a 9" -...
