    Howa mini actions?

I sold five CZ 527’s all in different calibers. There are none I miss nor want back. They all shot ok. At that time I could buy two Minis for the cost of one 527, and I did. The only mini I had issues with was a 223 pencil barrel, vertical stringing I could not tolerate for a varmint rifle. The...

    Prairie dog hunts

I keep a trash bag in the truck when we are out. A dozen miles from the nearest house and cans bottles and trash. Some of the crap that people toss out. Buddy of mine that lives in Gods country said the locals are usually worse than visitors.

    Shortened barrel….bad groups now

Yup, changed the harmonics. A new load or different ammo. I would suggest complete start over and work up. I refuse to shorten my barrels because of “can” length. I see a lot of folks do it, but I am not one of them.

Bone to pick with new rifle owners - 100 yards out of the box

Just my opinion, like elbows everyone has a couple. I understand there are times when long shoots are required. I like rifles and have almost enough. I am fair at judging a distance out to 300, most times. Years ago I had to decide if it was a bow or a handgun. At the time I knew way more...

    Prairie Dog Rifle Question…

I take multiple rigs. I run nothing but 25+ grain bullets in my 17 Remington. I see and hear a lot of negative on this cartridge. I try and not set up in anymore cross wind than possible for any of my prairie dog shooting. I have shot with a number of folks the past few years, most all have...

    Prairie Dog Rifle Question…

My light rifles weigh around 17-18 pounds. A well balanced heavy rig aids in doing your own spotting. My 20VT and 17 Remington weigh 25+ pounds, almost zero movement when fired. No, they aren’t a rig I will pack very far, have equipment for that if is so desire. Talking about barrel life, I...

    Prairie Dog Rifle Question…

I will wish for a 800-1000 round day on prairie dogs. I think those days are past.

Prairie Dog FUN in New Mexico Soon

Late to the party. I like to eat deer. I have made some long treks to “harvest” one. I could care less about horns either, fry them, bake them, boil them still not palatable. I pretty much refuse to go more than 5-10 miles to get some meat, usually about 2 miles. YET tell me we are going dog...

    My Favorite Prairie dog rifle

That’s a tough one. I will say I grab my 17 Remington every chance I get. I usually run it first thing in the AM. A lot of folks holler about the wind, I have no complaints. Try to set up so not shooting in a cross wind no matter what. By 11-12 it is usually fouled or hot if not both. Then...

    Canned Deer

New a fellow that did a paid Bison hunt. He said the hardest part was rolling the big critter over so the big “X” on one side didn’t show. He won it in a raffle. He is still PO’d that he didn’t win the rifle he was after, lol.

204 or 223 for Prairie Dogs

Most all of my rigs weigh about or around 18-20 pounds, + or -, this allows one to better do their own spotting. As mentioned accuracy trumps speed, I still admit to being a speed freak. When I am holding head high and hitting low, I switch rigs with something that is zeroed higher or shoots...

204 or 223 for Prairie Dogs

Never got prairie dog accuracy with a mix of brass. I use a variety of cartridges for the task at hand, 17, 20,22 and 6mm, all of various size cases small to large. Kind of like wrenches, some adjustable wrench’s will work for numerous task, but not always the best tool for the job. A 223...

    Visit to gun show.

I haven’t been to a show in a long while. Stupid prices and stupid people with stupid comments. I have to deal with the latter two through the week, numerous times a day. Last time I went, I came home feeling pretty wealthy if prices were what items sold for.
