    New build ideas

Maybe it’s time to go big: 375 416 458 Like you most of my rifles are in the 6mm to 30cal range, but I do enjoy taking out the big bores and running a few rounds down range. South Africa trips are getting cheaper so maybe there’s a safari in your future. Whatever you decide, it should be...

    Special needs hunter help?

I would suggest a pair of non collapsible fiberglass or carbon ski poles over collapsible trekking poles. Collapsible trekking poles are for stability and not support, and it sounds likes your wife will be using them for support.

Handguns: Black Bear Defense - Which is more Effective?

I always carry bear spray and my Ruger Blackhawk in 45 Colt with Buffalo Bore 325gr +P while fishing, hiking, or hunting in Alaska. Pick a gun you can shoot fast and accurately, but it should be a second option to bear spray.

new barrel. have you ever seen this

I’m sorry to say, but bore scopes in the hands of the untrained is the manufacturer’s and shooting enthusiast’s worst nightmare. I spent a week in the U.S. Navy’s Gun Barrel Inspection School and another year working as an apprentice before I received certification to inspect naval gun barrels...

Problems with scope mounting input needed!

I had the same issue when I mounted a scope on my wife’s 700, ended up being an issue with the base to ring interface with a Weaver one piece picatinny base and Leupold rings. Once I swapped out to a Leupold base the scope and rings aligned properly and I was able to zero the rifle.

Wife bought me a TC Encore

I purchased my first T/C Contender in 1985 and my Encore in 1998. Getting a good trigger job and making sure you don’t have slop in the hinge pin does a ton for accuracy. Bellm and EA Brown are good places for parts, this forum and specialtypistols.infopop.cc have a lot of useful knowledge about...

How many rounds taken on a hunt?

20 rounds total split between the gun, extra mag or cheek pouch, and backpack when I’m on foot stalking, another 40 in the truck or at camp incase I drop the rifle and need to zero the scope.

Opinions - Most Accurate $500 ish 22LR rifle

I bought 2 Ruger Precision Rimfires in 22LR before Christmas for my kids. One cost $449 and the other was $419. Both shoot and cycle great, no issues with loading or extracting rounds. They are setup with Leupold VX Freedom 3-9x40 rimfire scopes and Magpul bipods. My only trigger time was to...

Poll/Discussion: Hunting with a Muzzle Brake

My 300WM had a break while my 375H&H doesn’t. I solo hunt with the 300WM and like the ability to spot my shot. The distance I use the 375H&H at negates the need to spot the shot.

    SHORT ACTIONS ARE STUPID!!

Any particular action length isn’t “stupid”, but we as consumers are indeed “stupid”. We are asking the firearms and ammunition manufacturers to do things that require thinking outside the box. Today everyone wants long sleek heavy for caliber bullets and 3000+fps velocity out of 50 year old...

Which caliber for Remington 700 long action (3006 bolt face) rebarrel?

If your true expectation is to hunt at 400 yards than stick with the 30-06. It gives you the flexibility to shoot lighter/faster bullets for small to medium game, while also allowing heavy bullets for medium/large game. In reality, if you really hunt in the 300 yard range I would choose the 35...
