If you don't need portability, get yourself a Barr&Stroud or Wild military rangefinder. They were going about 400-500 dollar for one in good condition. They will range a lot farther than anyone would shoot. jack1k

I do a lot of long range shooting, and a 300 Win mag should have at least 26" barrel. Shooting anything less, you only need a 30-06. Not a lot of difference except more recoil. A Win .300 WSM will do very well with a 24" barrel. jack1k

I've had luck with 56.0 gr IMR 4350 with 165 gr, Fed 210 primers, and Winchester brass. Velocity was about 2700 fps with a 22" barrel. This shot very good in my Rem 700, plus it shot good in other bolt and pump action rifles. jack1k

I've had no problems with Jewell, Timney, or Shilen. Keeping the trigger clean should be your main priority, whether it be a custom or factory trigger. Keep the action clean too, especially on pump and lever action, and automatics in states that allow them. A friends rifle was fine when...
