what twist do I need for 168smk

Typically, the 1-9" would be the best, the 1-10 should do fine though, out of an Ackley. Headhunter

Rem 700 30-06 Springfield Bullet/Load for Mulies and Whitetails?

I agree with Jerry, for deer and such, you can not beat Hornady Interlocks out of a 06. I have harvested MANY animals with Hornady Interlocks out of Many different rifles and calibers. My favorite bullet for non - dangerous game. Headhunter

SST & AMax lack of expansion.?

The only thing I have ever shot with an A-Max was a Antelope at exactly 400 yards, out of a .280. The bullet was a 162 grain A-max. Hit him right behind the shoulder, he dropped, no exit, bullet jacket lodged under the hide on the opposite side. Headhunter

Thanks Jmbn, I have been looking around and should not have too much trouble finding the bases and rings. Having a hard time deciding on which scope to go with. Headhunter

    Leupold Scopes

I am a Leupold fan. I have about 12 of them. For my long range work, I like the 6.5x20x40 or 50mm with Mil-Dots and an elevation target turret. Premier can and will do almost anything Custom that you want. Leupold is fast in getting custom work done, and you are only out about 2 weeks of...

Thoughts on using threadlock when mounting a scope

JB1000br. Thanks for catching that. Yes, the bottom of the base needs to be roughed up. Headhunter

Thoughts on using threadlock when mounting a scope

I use blue Locktight (removeable) on base screws only. I feel there is no reason in the world to put locktight on ring screws. Ring screw pressure will hold a scope in place even on big kickers like 416 Remington Magnums and such. Another good thing to do in some cases is to "Bed" the bases to...

    Magazine feeding problem

Camoman, You would not believe how many times a customer has brought me a rifle that didn't feed properly and the only problem was................The magazine box was not in the rifle! A lot of times when a guy disassembles a Remington (Me Included) they forget to reinstall the magazine box...

    first custom rifle need help

Make sure you go with a Hart Barrel. Don't forget to have Hart Cryo it. If you are going to shoot heavy bullets, you might think about going to the 1-9" twist in it. Headhunter.

    synthetic stock stiffening

I wouldn't add weight to the Butt unless it was Grossly barrel heavy. If you have to, you can take off the recoil pad, drill a hole in the stock and put some lead in there until it suits you. Headhunter.
