Not saying i could. Just one is going to be “better” than the other. For the vast majority of people you could make the argument that the only difference that anyone would be able to tell between any of the choices is the increase in recoil.

Another "which Hammer" thread. 300WM, Win Mod 70.

The OP wants the “best option” I completely agree any of them will work for the stated task. But the AH will get better velocity with a little less mass and a lower BC and the HH is going to be going a little slower with a little more mass and a better BC. BC Not really important for drop at...

Another "which Hammer" thread. 300WM, Win Mod 70.

I voted for the 166HH but you’d have to run the data in a calculator to see if if the 162AH would be better. I’ve been following many of the threads recommended above and agree that the evidence is there but it is definitely outside the box and hard to accept without firsthand experience...

    30-06 165&180 ttsx insight needed

Don’t have any direct experience with the 165 or 180 but my 06 likes 55gr of H4350 with the 168 TTSXs. Don’t remember the exact velocity but it was just above 2800fps. Groups were right at .5 MOA -Matt

    N130 With Absolute Hammers 308

There is a 4895 load for the 162AH in the absolute data. I think that is about where they rain out of case capacity. Both TAC and PP Varmint are ball powders so you can fit a lot more in case. I agree that it will work, but you’re likely going to be a bit slower than the ~3140 you should be...

    Lighter bullets in 308

I will second hammer bullets specifically the absolute hammers. I can’t speak to the regular hammer hunter/shock hammers but the recoil of loads using absolutes seems to be significantly less than with standard monos. The recoil of my 150 TTSX (2900 FPS) load is noticeably more than the 151...

Best bullet for .308 with 748 powder?

Teri Anne, how much energy do you believe is needed? The general consensus is 1500ft lbs. using a ballistics calculator a 308win using 180gr partition at 2600fps mv (Nosler load data) at 5000ft altitude is traveling just over 2000fps/1600ftlbs at 400 and just under 1900fps/1400ftlbs at 500...

Best bullet for .308 with 748 powder?

With the powder you have I would try either 152 hammer hunters or 168 barnes TTSX. Steve at hammer says that they get 3000 FPS with the 152 hammer hunters and CFE223. I can get 2825 with the 168TTSX and cfe223. Win 748 is a little faster per the burn chart I have so you should be able to get...

Looking for Alliant Power Pro Varmint. I have 2 - 1lb containers of benchmark if interested in a trade or will pay a fair price. I’m in north Ft Worth

    Absolute Hammer load data

Have any of you guys using FCDs gone back to “normal” neck tension with the crimp? ie 0.002 neck tension and then add the crimp? If so what were your results? So far I’ve only added the crimp to brass that I had already sized without the expander ball in my sizing die resulting in 0.006...

    Absolute Hammer load data

Edited to make more readable, original post I spaced all the data out to make it look like a table but the site jammed it all together. A few weeks ago I was talking with Steve and he suggested I retry Alliant Power Pro Varmint with the 151s except using Large Rifle Primers (F210) rather then...

    Absolute Hammer load data

Sorry, 151AH with the 308w and 178AH with the 06. I went back and updated my post to include. -Matt

    Absolute Hammer load data

Made it back to the range today and did another test with the 308 and tried the 178AH in my 30-06 for the first time. After talking with Steve I went back and tried using F210 primers rather than F215s with the 308 win. Steve said he had better results with the 210s when working up loads for...

Help narrowing down choice for first backcountry pack.

All, Thank you for the responses. I mentioned in the last post that I had ordered the MR Beartooth 80 and was waiting on the SG Xcurve to come back in stock which happened a couple days later. I ordered the Krux, Xcurve, and R3-5900 bag from them. After playing with each for a little over a...

    Absolute Hammer load data

Actually they're about the same. both 47gr of benchmark and 51gr of PP Varmint is right were I couldn't hear powder moving when I shook the case. the PP Varmint is much denser than the Benchmark.
