    458 SoCom AR

I built a .458 SOCOM nearly five years ago, and it has not given me the first problem. I used a RRA lower and a Bear Creek Armory upper with the 18" heavy stainless barrel. I get sub MOA three shot groups using the Barnes 300gr TTSX bullet and a 1x8 FFP scope. And my SilencerCo Osprey 45...

THEY ARE ALL VERY LIGHT AND VERY FAST

I was thinking about a compelling archery comparison that James Muhlbeier shared over on the Hammerbullets forum. It really drove home to me that a lot of the fine distinctions we examine and compare in external and terminal ballistics are pretty insignificant in the light of 50,000+ years of...

Reloading 6.5mm without ANY resizing: Has anyone else tried this?

Thanks for Great feedback. This all made no sense to me either, which is why I brought it up here. The tight necks in fired cases were, I believe, a byproduct of carbon buildup in the chamber. The confusing thing for me is still that my fired cases fit so easily back in the chamber...

Reloading 6.5mm without ANY resizing: Has anyone else tried this?

I've been transitioning from neck sizing to shoulder bumping for several of my long range calibers, using the recommended "tension on bolt close" testing and a set of Hornady headspace tools. But with some rifles, (especially my Bergara 6.5 creed) the fired cases fit back into the chamber just...

Best sheep/mountain gun for long range shooters

If it's just Sheep & Goats, the Weatherby First Lite in .257 wby mag is a great of the shelf choice for under $900... Mine is flat as a laser to 500 yards. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/876003060

    Recommend a Brake--Seekins Havak

Precision Rifle Blog did an incredibly comprehensive scientific test of the leading Brakes. The results were surprising in some cases. I bought the APA Little Bastard based on this study and have been very happy. https://precisionrifleblog.com/2015/08/21/muzzle-brake-summary-of-field-test-results/

    Shooting with a fused neck

I broke my neck had a ski accident 30 years ago, and have a limited range of movement. this has only affected prone position shooting. I have to assume a much higher position in order to get my eye behind the scope. proper form standing or sitting requires very little tilt of the head.

    Which ballistics app?

I'm a fan of Ballistic AE. Once you save a load as a favorite, you can tweak it based on your real wold DOPE and resave. Then you can simply call up the graphic interface where you can quickly spin the wheels to enter your range and the wind to get a firing solution. As mentioned before, you...

    Scope failed tall target test....🤬

Hey Doc, Given the non-linear nature of the horizontal offset, i.e. it does not increase as you crank up, it simply can not be reticle cant, or how you hold the rifle. And it's certainly not stock pressure. I think you have a mechanical issue inside the scope. I agree with what LR nut wrote...

Rifles we wish we've never sold, and WHY!

1973, 14 years old, working after school at Builder's Hardware in Charlotte, NC, which was the largest gun shop in the city at that time. A widow came in with her deceased husband's collection of custom rifles. The owner of the shop didn't want to take them on, but I bought his LWBR rifle, built...

    Magnetospeed

Actually the newest version of the Wiser mount has adjustments to account for forearm taper. I got mine 2 weeks ago, and it's a lot of kit for $100.

    What Priming Tool?

I use and love the Franklin Arsenal priming tool. Better construction and feel than the Lee. I used to decap, resize, and prime in one up and down motion. I still do that for non critical ammo, like .223 for mag dumps. But the separate priming pass fits well into my new process, which includes...

    Silencerco harvester300

it’s true that the harvester is not rated for full auto. However, the silencer shop has a video posted of one of their guys doing a 30 round mag dump with no issues, in an effort to refute the idea that the harvester is too fragile for AR use. I love my harvester direct thread, and use it for...

Weatherby 257: How important is seating depth with all that freebore?

Thanks for the advice. I’m very aware of the limited barrel life and the amount of wear and tear it is taking me to work out a better load. I was hoping to get it down to .5 moa, but that may not be in the cards. That said, a lightweight bullet in this rifle could be an incredible coyote round...
