    First Buck in a while

Go Sox! Awesome buck. And I need to get me one of those camo Bo' Sox caps. Great to hear of your sons enthusiasm as well. My son, now a young man at 20, was stoked this year, and hunted hard. Bagged a decent buck for his efforts. And, as an aside, but he may be a bigger Sox fan than his...

    New brass

I measure head space then prep as needed. An example -- a recent new box of 33 Nosler brass from Nosler actually chambered tighter than once fired factory ammo, indicated by the bolt being tight to close. I measured head space (on shoulder) and the new brass was actually longer than the...

    Misfires with a specific ammo

Jon, Thanks for this advice. I contacted Wolff to make sure I am choosing the correct spring. Winchester gets a bit confusing (pre-64, post 64, this gun is way post, purchased in 2019 but may use pre-64 design???), at least for me. Wolff replied that when FN started making this rifle for...

    Misfires with a specific ammo

No problem on my end cleaning out the bolt. In fact, I disassembled the M70 bolt last night and there was a lot of oil or lube in there, likely anti rust preventative. Would it be OK if I simply give it a bath in my ultrasonic cleaner, disassembled, and with standard parts cleaner? Then blow...

    Misfires with a specific ammo

Help me out a bit on headspacing. Does shoulder position not matter at all, with only the belt determining precise placement of the cartridge in the chamber? If so, how do I measure head space based on the bolt? FYI, both types of ammo that I am currently shooting have primer sealant...

    Misfires with a specific ammo

I will take a shot at this one, given that I started the thread. If you have head space issues with a specific brand or lot of ammo, you can add a layer or two of scotch tape to the head of the cartridge, to make it a bit longer, about 0.003" per layer of tape added. You then chamber the round...

    Misfires with a specific ammo

Thansk xsn. Comparator measurements underway. Can do the Hornadys -- fired, duds, and unfired; the Federals -- fired n=60 and unfired n=20; and also one new box of Nosler brass (not nickel plated). Was going to disassemble the bolt and give it a good cleaning in the ultrasonic cleaner, with...

    Misfires with a specific ammo

Greetings, I am breaking in a Winchester Model 70 Alaskan, 375 H&H. This gun is a strong candidate for a back up on an upcoming CO elk hunt this fall. I will soon do some load tuning but now have an issue with misfires. I have discharged 60 rounds of Federal Premium, 300 gr Nosler Partition...

    Can’t post on classifies

Hi Jlp, just wanted to wish you a good morning, and let you know that I don't have enough posts yet either (at least I don't think so). I have an MGM 6.5 PRC Encore barrel that I want to post soon for sale, so need to get on my horse, or on the keyboard actually.

    Elk Mount

Don't mean to start off a reply with a negative note, but in our rural areas, the dead beats break in to cabins to steal mounts. The market is to taverns for interior decoration. So perhaps adds in Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace may find a legitimate buyer?

    Elk/Deer Caliber

I went with Silencer Central, for 2 cans -- Banish 45 for my 10mm, and Elite Iron for my 375. If you buy from them, their smith will thread your gun for (I think) $100, and then make sure the suppressor seats on there. They are not cheap, but $1K covers everything but threading -- including...

    Thors Hammer Thundered!

Thanks Muddy. Steve also suggested the 196 HH as well. This gun loves the 190 LRX, 0.25 MOA, but suspect terminal ballistics with the Hammers may be an improvement.
