    What twist?

just take Hammer’s suggested twist rate. They know what works best for their bullets.

    Which bullet?

I agree. It is not the weight that performs. The 155 will drop less, hit every bit as hard, and hold together better than Bergers…plus a bit less kick. Sometimes old-school thinking is good, but this is not one of those times.

Hammer question for 6.5 Sherman Max

For quite sometime I have looked for the cartridge dimensions of the 6.5 Sherman. Nothing yet. Does someone have a pic of the dimensions somewhere? Not on Sherman website. I would like to have a solid grasp of the dimensional differences between it and the 6.5-06 AI. From reading, it seems...

    First magnum caliber

if you are a fan of the 6.5 caliber, then you might consider the Weatherby 6.5RPM. The beauty of this modification is that you don’t need to modify your bolt face. This cartridge can deliver you the performance of 264 Winchester Magnum but stay within the confines of your bolt face. It is...

    6.5-06 A Square

I could not agree more. had the 6.5-06 been commercially adopted, there would have been no need for the other two.

    Mountain goat bullet selection.

The 142 Nosler ABLR or 124 Hammer Hunter. Both deadly upon impact, neither frag, the Hammer a bit less drop.

I started with a 308 Win, and after thinking I'd move on to other cartridges I'm still shooting it.

except that many stock 308s have a long 1:11 or 1:12 twist which makes the use of some high BC bullets a problem.. plus they often come with a short barrel. The cartridge is great and if you barrel a .308 with 1:10 twist and 24/26” length, you will have a serious performer that makes use of its...

    25-06 vs 257 wby

Hammer Hunters in 121 & 128 all copper, Berger 135

    25-06 vs 257 wby

25-06 :: less expensive on all fronts, brass, amount of powder, easy to find off the shelf in a bind, not an overbore ,nearly the speed of the Weatherby without a belt, slick loader. The only reason to go with Wby is if you are really a freak for speed. Assuming that your are building the...

    Boat tailed bullets

An amazing range of responses you arr getting. But bullets don’t seal from the rear, they seal from the side so it’s the walls of the bullet that are actually pushed into the grooves and lands to seal. Boat tails actually offer slightly more surface area than a flate base at the rear to absorb...

    .270wcf vs 6.8 Western & 270 WSM

again, glad you posted your comment. Once folks strip away the propaganda and grasp the specifics, then numerous paths to performance present themselves. One wonders when, or if, manufacturers will begin providing faster twist barrels for the other .277s and .257s. It astounds me that...
