    backpack for horseback hunt

Its also a good idea to minimize anything strapped on to your body while riding. A stray branch sneaking under a bino or backpack strap can result in a wreck or keep you from getting free of your ride during an unplanned exit.

    Stoney Point bipods

If you come across the old version hang on to it! We've used them for years and hopefully they will get the rubber issue fixed. I lost my last "old" style last fall somewhere so I keep a spare handy now.

Leupold Gold Ring HD Spotting Scope Issues????

We have a standard and an HD. They are both nice but the HD does have an edge and would be worth getting. To my eyes our Leica and Swaro beat them, but you pay for it.

    john burn's .243 load

105 VLD with Retumbo. We try and stay away from giving actual charges on the web because they can be hot for factory chambers. But you guys got her nailed down pretty close. We run them about 3050 fps. Barrel life is decent. Not sure if we have a detailed count but it's 1500+ easy if I recall.

    Scope base: 20* or not?

If the reticle was all the way up. You were dialed all the way "down", which makes sense since a 20 MOA base limits downward dialing and increases upward dialing. Dialing "up" makes your reticle appear to move down and dialing "down" makes your reticle appear to move up.

    The 6.5's

6.5 Rem Mag has a case capacity of 68. something. The 264 is 82. Theres no replacement for displacement as they say in racing. That said, a 6.5 going between 2800 & 3000 has a whole bunch of uses.

    The 6.5's

You get a really flat trajectory, with fairly low recoil, and they are effective on game. Makes for a pretty attractive combo. Every cartridge is a trade-off in bullet choices, recoil, powder consumption, ballistics, energy, action type, component availability, barrel life, etc, etc...

    what's your excuse?

I've never missed, but if and when I do, I'll explain what happened :D Sometimes you know you pulled one, other times everything seems perfect and you have no reason to doubt the gun, load, or rest. You can't replay it but I usually chalk it up to something I did wrong or just different than...

Do you hunt big game with a bow?

Been hunting with recurves or longbows my whole life.

Better caliber for long range shooting 7mm or 243?

A 243 in a factory twist with a decent BC bullet like 95 VLD mentioned above if it likes them or a heavier Ballistic tip or Scirocco makes a good 500 yd gun for your purposes. The factory twist 243s I've had experience with (limited) all shot one of the above well and put a hurt on the 632...

    My first build

Thats a really nice build. If you are interested in being able to snap the butt stock onto the arm, give me a call or email. If you or Greg didn't fill it, the little extra hole right behind the pistol grip is pre threaded for our stud and the other flexible part replaces the Y. Or if you...

    Swift bullets published BC's

No direct experience, but based on some customer data, try .540 if running them at 3000 fps.

    what do groups mean?

Here's an important factor that I have found applies to every rifle & load I've ever shot... No matter how good or bad it shoots, or which way it strings or sends a flyer, I can make it worse. Point being, shoot enough with the same rest and as close to the same hold, cheek pressure, trigger...

    God groups but bad ES

1/4 MOA from 100 to 700 yards? Take "yes" for an answer and go hunting. It would be tough to shoot well enough to notice any improvement if you did find something to change.

Leupold Mark AR Scopes - Anyone

I put one on a nephews AR. Works and looks great, but I believe it is a dressed up VXII.
