MOA at 400 but can't get on target at 650?

There are all kinds of things that begin to affect accuracy at about 650 yards, but you have most of them covered. One of them not discussed so far is the accuracy of ranging. If you look at the drop vs. range profile of almost any cartridge, this is the range at which the bullet is really...

    6.5 bullets on game

A bullet, of a given weight and terminal velocity and somewhat the SD, that's designed for terminal performance on given game doesn't much care what it diameter is. A 140 grain bullet impacting at ~2400 - 2600 fps needs to retain a given weight and expand to a given diameter dictating...

    Changing Ballistic Tip to Accubond

The answer is yes, or no, or somewhere in between depending on a lot of variables you didn't mention. Mostly, at what range, and to what criteria. The same bullets from different lots group differently, just ask precision shooters. If you're shooting .3-.5 moa, F Class, without wind, and from...

    Long-ish range prairie dog caliber?

Keep in mind that this shooting is not so much the rifle - cartridge - scopes - or exotic tools. The most difficult part of shooting is that of wind doping. I've shot hundreds of dogs in South Dakota and as you know, always in the wind. I've seen a great many shot at 600-900 with the 22-250...

    Which s/a 6.5?

Lapua's cases in the 6.5x47 are the best cases I've shot in anything. I've got 2600 rounds through a Brux with no change in accuracy. I get SDs of 2.5 to 4 consistently. Never before had such consistent performance from a cartridge.

What do you consider good enough?

I shoot a 6.5x47 Lapua, a little smaller case capacity than the cm, but mostly the same ballistically. I own a gun range, so get all the shooting I want, whenever and any distance. I've chronoed (labradar) just over 2000 rounds through it with Berger and Hornady 130 to 147 from 350 to 1760...

Why can't i reload exact cartridges?

The source of variance in well-made bullets is not from the base to the ogive, but from the ogive to the tip. The length to the tip makes little difference to the ballistics, but the length from base to ogive does. If your seater stem does not touch the bullet on or about the ogive and is...
