Two years later I’m finally getting around to trying these guys out. Initial testing I was able to get the 155’s going 3,040 fps with no pressure signs. That’s already an improvement over the 150 Etips of nearly 100 fps combined with a significant improvement in BC. Going to take them out this...
I got the 1200i earlier this year. Haven't been able to test it on game but I've been very impressed with it in comparison to the two previous 600 yard models I had. It's worked great out to 1000 on rocks no problems for me and is very fast. My previous models Nikon and Leupold were lucky to...
I honestly don't recall what program I used to come up with those numbers. Like I said I did that years ago. Perhaps I'll do it again with some of the newer programs. I believe though at the 300-600 yard ranges where most "longrange" big game is taken the error for average conditions is likely...
A thread I started a few years back: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/case-bdc-turrets-72754/
I'm sure this dead horse has been beat plenty of times! I was running the numbers today to try and figure out which BDC settings to order my turret. The load is .308 Win, 150 gr ETips at 2850...
Trial and error. Keep noted if what does work and the time of year. Volume should depend on if you're hunying wide open vs timber. I don't use a electronic but for me a great sequence is s challenge howl followed a few minutes later by Kai-ai
I'd personally love to see a high BC style mono in a lighter .308 bullet. In my experience even the 150 grain ETips are pushing it for good velocity out of a .308 Win. The higher velocity required for expansion in a mono trumps the BC benefits of the heavier bullets in a moderate sized chamber...
Pull the bolt.
Wet rag on the barrel. (I've never had any problems doing this. A bullet heats up a barrel in miliseconds so cooling one down over a minute plus shouldn't be a scary shock to it.)
Set the gun inside the car out of the sun.
I like the idea of the mattress pump, especially...
Yep. Hits on target. If I can keep 10 shots from 10 different ranges and shooting positions relatively centered on my 12" gong I consider my self good to go.
The quick and easy answer is TOO MUCH! I always carry way more weight than I should. The one thing that I would suggest if you're going solo leave the spotter. The only time we carry a spotter is when one of us is a non-shooter. I realize your odds of spotting game go way up with a spotter but a...
Bottom line both are more than adequate for deer out to 700 yards. You have to significantly increase the size/toughness of the animal or the range to be able to say once trounces the other.
For a real world field gun is there much noticeable improvement. Growing up using the stock trigger I always had a tendency to pull shots to the right. I've notices that after installing a Jewel that my groups tend not to string out to the right as they did when I was younger. Part of that could...
