I have found 4895 imr or H to shoot well through all temps and here in canada we get pretty cold. I shoot 75 eldms with 2920 ft/ second, 41.5 grains of H version right nown. We never shoot less than 600 yards, mostly 800 but do shoot 1000 on reasonably nice days and we shoot most every day...
to reply to a comment from earlier, Insane times often require insane actions.
here we drive 50 or 80 miles to source anything at any time. drove 185 miles for a scope. January drove 880 miles south and picked up a trigger.
Our best source was just told by his supplier a year...
He probably means he gets that velocity at the barrel, then at 110 he gets 700 + ft lbs at 1100 yards.
700 ft lbs was the deer standard minimum for decades.
thats why they make heavier shooters for bigger game.
otherwise, hunt better getting closer to affect a definitive kill...
Im in same boat, same thoughts.
Ive decided to go to 6br with a fast twist to shoot heavier bullets and still have good barrel life (i shoot a lot.). if I wsnted a wild cat, 6 dasher.
here is one for you:
I always shot 180g partitions, longest shot 725. I Always hated the violent recoil the old Sako A1 gave. 3 or more shots left bruises.
I developed a losd for 125 grain nosler bts. very fast but toned down down. shot jordes of deer, a moose and a bear...
With a partition just hydrostatic shock would have dropped it.
I use 143 eldx and only one deer ran aferwards, 100 yards and fell and it was 654 yard shot.
Ill get hate mail, but ill never use a berger bullet for hunting, just t better chices out there. 58 years hunting deer has...
Id bet its your positional shooting.
once it comes back, does it stay?
simple change in comfort can make quite a change.
I have one jacket i quite shooting in because it changed my form enough to have effects on accuracy.
I hunt all winter in canada. after many yeàrs I have ge to Irish Setter boots gortex with 2000 thinsulate lining.
liked them so well went back and bought a second pair a week later.
what ever you decide get go leather.
avaiilable via cabellas or direct.
for 1 to 600 yards a 223 remington is a great choice, particularly sence you ave larher calibers all ready low recoil, easy economical loader. get it with 1 :6.5 twist and soot 75 to 90 rain pills. te 75 grainer ave almost same balistics as a 6.5 cm. out to 1000 yrdd, shoots well to 1100 yards
I spend 100 to 128 days a season in the field hunting something with a game getter in my pocession. I am seldom more than 20 miles from my home where ive lived sense 1980. Ive given even bushes names ( eg, the invisible bush) from prior hunts, some game has been named too (the dor jam buck)...
