You should start shooting a smaller caliber and work out the flinch if it
It psychological Fire a good deal
Of say 243 then move to a 7 and then a 30. Then shoot light bullets from the weatherby until you get up to what you want. Exercise and repetition.
22LR
243 for varmints
7mm08 Regular game and light carry
300 weatherby mag for hard hitting at long range
338 win mag or 33 Nosler for the big stuff
Africa is just not in my wheelhouse
There is nothing the VX6 can do that the VX5 can’t. Should have saved the couple hundred bucks. But since you have committed put the Greater magnification on the rifle you would
Use at longer range.
The new Remington Model 7 is a great call. Short action lighter than the 700 but same action. Very accurate. As barrel and very good synthetic stock. Aluminum bedding block
etc. bought mine for just under $900.
There was a great article I read a few years ago about how a pig can absorb a punch from a slower bigger round but is devastated by the internal disruption of a smaller faster round like the .223 ripping through its body. Yes I thought it was bunk until I hit a pig a bit high with a 30.06 at 70...
My wife shoots the 7mm 08 and the first three dear she pulled the trigger on fell in their tracks. 308 can kick like a mule and 7mm bullets are a lot better BC. There was a recent post on LRH about the 7mm 08 for elk up to 600 yards. All that shoot it love it and those that don’t should try it...
If you wear glasses add an extra pair, screwed if you break the main pair. If only readers then a pair of those in case you have to do a repair or any fine work.
Have the Kimber in 243 and it shoots extremely well both with 100g deer loads and 55g varmint loads. Only down side is the stock is loud when it scraps against my body while slung on my shoulder. Fixed the problem with a stock sleeve for the rounds. Love my 7-08 and like others have stated here...
You started at medium game so:
7mm.08. Dream to shoot on any deer sized animal.
.30 wsm or 300 Weatherby Mag
.338 Or 33 Nosler
With those three (ok 5 but you get the point) you cover all of North America.
Add a .22 for plinking and a 243 for varmint to smaller than deer and you have it all...
I have a Remington Model 7 in 7mm.08 that is extremely accurate and is approximately $1200. The stock is a laminate wood that holds up in all weather and terrain. I did add a muzzle break but it was really not necessary in that caliber. They just recently announced that they are reintroducing...
