    300 weatherby

I have a 270 Mark V Weatherby and have taken several elk and mule deer with it as well as dozens of white tails. It is the finest rifle I have ever owned. I bought it almost 50 years ago. Bruce

    Would you eat this bull?

A few years back I shot a whitetail that had apparently been cut across the brisket by an arrow. He had puss running out, was very thin, and smelled terrible. The only deer I ever wasted, but it is not worth taking the chance, even with an elk.

    Too late to start?

I am not only a hunter, I am also a pastor and a married man (36 years in August). For what it is worth, I will give you the same advice that I have given myself and others. In any situation where there is a conflict of opinions between you and your wife, especially if she is concerned about...

Whats your favorite long range rifle ?

My favorite is also a .270 WBY Magnum. The only elk I ever lost with it was when my scope went out.

    Idaho hunt

I remember my first backpack hunt in Colorado. I was living in Virginia and was going with a brother and two friends who lived out there. I was worried about the elevation making a big difference, so I worked on my stamina by walking 5 miles every day and then adding some weight and jogging 5...

exploding bullets on impact...is this real or are people guessing?

Hornandy makes a”super explosive” (SX) .224 55 gr. bullet that is designed to “explode” very quickly. Some shoot dear with them, but I use them only for varmints.

Suitable youth rifle for a Mule Deer hunt?

My son started at 11 years old with a.243 Winchester 70 featherweight. He has killed several white tails and only needed a second shot on the first one when his first shot was too far back. His largest one was a large bodied 11 point. His furthest shot was a little over 100 yds. For longer...

Rifle for Older Guy with a Bad Neck....

Last Thursday I had surgery on the same section of my neck. For this fall I am going back to my 7x57 Mauser. It shoots great and has a mild recoil. I will pray for him.

    270 Weatherby

You are definitely right about the placement. I doubt that there is anyone on this forum like this, but I have known too many who shoot even if they can’t get a shot in the vitals.

    270 Weatherby

I shoot a WBY Mark V in .270 WBY. I have taken several elk, a couple of prong horn, and many whitetail and mule deer with it. When I lived in Idaho and hunted elk and deer, I stuck with 150 grain Partitions and 67.9 grains of H4831. My longest shots have been just over 200 yards with no need of...

Behind enemy lines in CA. Need to escape. Need help

Idaho would be my choice. I lived in Salmon for 8 years and loved it. I still own land there although my wife doesn’t like the winters or distance from family.
