    338-300RUM

Seabass, You Marines are so coollllll My "old ranger" cold ***... stayed at home all weekend! When you're dumb... you have to be tough, right? That was some good shooting given the temps. I ordered my new #4 contour Shilen Select in, you guessed it... .338! I am going to build myself...

loads for a 300 win mag with smk

I've never been able to beat Sierra's recommended 200 gr MK load for the 300 WM. I use 69.4 grs of RE 22, GM 215 Federal Gold Medal Match primers, at OAL of 3.48". I get 2850 or so PFS. It makes ragged little holes at 100 yds, and has dumped deer in their tracks to 1000 yds.

7mm Ultra Mag or have you seen any similar ballistic performance?

Rifle: Custom built is the way to go. SS, M700, Shilen #5 contour barrel finished at 28". Bedded into a Classic McMillan Stock. Jewell trigger set at 1 lb. Zeiss Glass on top. Load: 140 grs Nosler Accubonds, on top of 103 grs of H BMG50, GM 215 primers, Remington cases. Results: 3600...

    338-300RUM

Roy. I am... and have been a die hard SMK freak. But the NABs have me perplexed at how accurate they are in my 338-300. 3350 FPS into a bug hole at 100 yds, and into 2.25" at 600 yards. All out of a much modified M700 at a mere 11 lbs hunting set-up. v/r

    338-300RUM

Shawn, great discussion as ussual. I get 3350 FPS out of my 28" walk-around rifle, with the 225 gr NAB in front of 102 gr Re-25. But that is the top end with regards to velocity. I would have used the 300 gr SMK up front in the load process, but due to things having serious fangs up here, I...

    338-300RUM

Hey Marine! I got two suggestions fer ya... 1. Hold onto your hat mister... especially once I get that sweet stock of yours onto my Diablo! 2. Don't waste barrel life trying to beat me... it is an extreme waste of a good barrel! See you Sunday Diablo I out!

    Accubond failures?

Hopefully, I'll let you know by 22 SEP what a 338, 225 gr Accubond, at 3350 FPS will do for a big Moose & big Bear. v/r

How good is Long range hunting ?

Redbone, I can't prove it to you, but some world class shooters hang out around here. Both military (current and past) and civillian tactical shooters as well. Many have married their professional skills to hunting. You just have to take my word for that. Additionally, there are no finer LR...

    Sealing Primers?

Thanks I am heading out into the Alaskan Bush for 21 days this September (Float Hunt and rain is expected everyday... all day) Just curious if this was a good idea.

    Sealing Primers?

OK, so the ammo will be exposed to wet conditions, what then?

7 ultra 160 grain accubond findings

duckinalaska, Good shooting. I am using 87 g of IMR 7828, 160 NAB, GM 215 primers, OAL 3.68 to achieve a sweet 3350 FPS! They shoot into .9 at 400 yards. No signs of pressure.

    Barnes MRX ??

Fiftydriver, Thanks. Lately I grow tired of trying them just to be dissappointed time and time again. The concept is solid, no pun intended!

    Barnes MRX ??

I am always had an open mind. Truthfully, I am not a fan of the Barnes Bullets (I never could get them to shoot tight enough). Anyone got any 338s yet? Has any one here ever even used them yet? Why can't they publish a BC????? If the 225g 338 caliber MRX bullet is no less efficient than...
