How far out will you kill an elk by yourself?

I'm 60 years old with hips going bad. This past year I was in 2 miles. Took a 5x5 at about 3:30 in the afternoon cross canyon. almost 5:30 by the time I got to him. Got him quartered and hung in the dark. Loaded the heart, one backstrap, and a forequarter. Got back to the truck about 10:30. Went...

How Far with a 7mm Rem Mag?-Elk Hunting

I shoot the 168gr HVLD from my 7LRM. I have over 2000 FPS and over 1500# of kinetic energy at 1000 yards (shooter app). That's all well and good but I limit myself to 700 yards simply due to the fact that 700 yards is as far as I have access to for regular practice.

Problem with new factory 7prc ammo

I'll never say never, but a love/hate relationship will drive me to almost any length to not use their product unless they are the only thing out there that will work. And I will say that I refuse to buy hornady factory ammunition or reload their brass. If Hornady is the only option I will go...

How critical is measuring powder to .01 grains

I'm in the 1/10 grain camp. I've seen a tenth make a difference but not less than that in my experience with the equipment I have. There are other things that make a difference from form to seating depth and everything in between, but powder charge is where I'll make my 1st adjustment. I think...

Does anyone hunt with 22-250 anymore?

I had a friend run the same thing through quick load for 80gr SMK's out of a 24", 8 twist 22-250. H-1000 at 36.4gr max. would have been 107% case fill and would produce under 40K pressure at about 2760 fps. I settled on 34.3gr. of CFE 223 running at 3215 fps shooting just under .250" (about the...

Not gun related but proud dad moment!

    Ramshot Powders?

I've only used Ramshot pistol powders, True blue and silhouette. They get the velocities I'm looking for and are very clean burning powders. Pretty happy with them. For my rifles I typically try to stay in the Hodgdon line of powders.

    Hammett and Sons Inc.

CVCOBRA1, the barrel is a benchmark 1 in 8. I have loads for Sierra 69 grain match kings and 77 grain Noslers. I use Nosler brass, Winchester LR primers, and H4831sc in both loads. Both the 69's and the 77's have the same 100 yard zero. I have had the 69's out to 400 and they shot so well I...

    Hammett and Sons Inc.

Just helped a neighbor friend fell a dead hickory tree from his front yard. He knows that I have a 22-250 and that I like the heavy pills. In return for the help he insisted than I accept a bucket of 1400 Hammett and Sons Inc. 80 gr. VLD's. Of course I did accept as he said he had no use for...

    Hogs in Texas

Excerpt from the Texas Trubune: "Kaput’s active ingredient is warfarin, which at varying concentrations is used as a rat poison and as a blood thinner in humans. Dispensed through special feeders that have weighted lids intended to limit other animals’ access, it causes hogs that consume it to...

    Hogs in Texas

"Try paying for a few hundred or thousand acres and then get back with us." How the FU#$ do you think I got my property, it **** sure wasn't given to me!!! That's kind of a bold statement for someone that knows not of what they speak.
