I have one of the first light barreled ones as well. It required some work to get it to shoot well. My two heavy barreled savages shoot extremely well after pillar and bedding.

Put thin tin on the tree from the ground to above the feeder. It used to happen to me.

225 is a much better temp. I also brine in apple juice 24 hrs.
