    Wolf caliber and round?

No quota for either hunting or trapping in most of the state now. Not that it makes much difference, they had it up to 30 combo hunting and trapping, plus you could use hunting tags on trapped wolves or vice versa as long as you had both licenses and the season for the tag you had was open...

Washington State wolves and the future of hunting

No, that has been a plan and an argument of the antis for years. It was the reason they pushed for the reintroduction of wolves back in the 90s. The plan being if we have wolves they will manage the ungulates and make hunting unnecessary.

    Wolf caliber and round?

I'm no expert like Brent, I've only shot a couple, trapped several but only shot the two. One with a 7mm STW and the other with a Mini 14. I recommend something a little bigger than 22 caliber, although if you place it right they will kill just fine. But moveing up to 243 or larger gives you...

    168 Berger Classic Hunters

I have had excellent accuracy results with RE25 and 180 Bergers, but as others have pointed out be aware it is temperature sensitive. 7828 SSC also shot good and gave a little higher velocities. Just be aware that 7828 SSC and 7828 are not the same and don't use load data for 7828 to load 7828...

    180 ELDM?

Anybody use these in a 7STW for hunting? I know they are a match bullet but lots of the 6.5 guys swear the ELDM is a better hunting bullet than the ELD-X. I've always shot the 180 Berger VLDs and they shoot great. But I was just looking at the 180 ELDMs and they have a higher BC, are cheaper...

    New Cartridge 6.8 Western

The 260 in custom ARs was cleaning up the competition. This is why the 6.5 Creedmoor came to be. It was built as a long range competition caliber that would chamber, and feed reliably in an AR while shooting heavy, high BC bullets. They did a few tweaks to it so it isn't a 260AI, but it is...

    God help us thread

Forbiding politics on say the Equipment Discussion forum is fine and makes some sense. So every discussion of a new bipod isn't interrupted by somebodies pet political theory. But politics is too important to the sport and lifestyle this whole site is about; there should be a forum on here...

    Time to cut some weight.

Bass Pro/Cabelas don't always know what they are talking about. My Savage 260 is 1 in 8", Savage might have made a 1 in 10" .264 barrel at some time, but probably not recently and the vast majority are 1 in 8"

    Time to cut some weight.

I'll second the T3 lite. If you want to build your own you can get just what you want, but if you want to save some bucks Tikka has a pretty good selection of lightweight rifles. For that matter so does Savage for less money, I just like the Tikkas better.

Rangefinder binos vs hand held Rangefinder

A lot boils down to your budget. I am running a Leupold rx2800 rangefinder with on old pair (long discontinued) of Stiener Nightstalker binos. My new rangefinder I find to range better than my buddies Geovids or a guys Swarvorski rangefinder binos I was around. No experience with any of the...

    Minimum scope power

It should be good. I actually went down from VX3 6.5-20 to a Mark IV 4.5-14 on my rifle. MUCH better quality glass, better low light and I had shot two elk in the timber with the VX3, one of them on a dead run. I tend to shoot running game pretty much like wing shooting deer, without really...

18" barrel, best 500 yard ballistics?

Years ago Remington made their 760 pump in a carbine model with an 18" barrel chambered in 30-06 and 270. Sweet timber gun, I have a couple friends who have one but have never convinced one of them to sell me one. With the short barrel your limiting factor is going to be burning the powder...

Where does Rifle cant begin to matter?

I would like to point out one thing (which was mentioned in passing by at least one commenter). The important thing is NOT wether you cant your rifle, its wether your RETICLE is plumb or not. I have a friend who cants his rifle quite a bit, every gun of his I pick up (he is a bit of a...

    Preferred Ear Pro

I have problems telling how far away sounds are with them on high, I had an elk bugling this fall that sounded like he was 50 yards, turns out he was more like 500. I also heard an elk break a stick at 317 (ranged elk) but I don't know how loud that stick would have been without them in. I did...

    New Cartridge 6.8 Western

I guide elk hunters in Northern Idaho. . . timber country, not open breaks. Practically all of our elk are killed in clearcuts, and the average range is 200 yards, we kill a lot at 300 and a lot closer than 200, but it averages out about 200. We don't kill a lot much over 300 for the simple...
