For around the house in the swamp, I will use a 16" AR in 350 Legend. For the ranch in south Texas, I will use a 24" 6.5 PRC with 143 grain ELD-X handloads at 2888 fps.
I like my 6.5 Grendel. It's hell on pigs, which are tough critters. I load 123 grain Hornady SST bullets and they are going just over 2500 FPS out of a 20" barrel. Takes whitetail deer quickly too.
When I bought my first high powered bolt action rifle I wanted a "do all" rifle as well. This was about 15 years ago (I finally had other places to hunt besides my home swampland.) and I chose a Winchester M70 in 300 WSM. I put a 3-9 Nikon scope on it and it worked for everything I hunted...
RCBS has a new Chargemaster Supreme that is faster than their older models. I have a Chargemaster lite and I love it. It is a little slow but accurate.
Been using a Wraith NV but saving for a thermal. Lot's of fun at night in south Texas using .223, 300 BLK and my favorite, 6.5 Grendel. Good eating too. 80 lbs. or less are the best eating.
I use the horseshoe type and sometimes I use the barbed type on a string. They both work well. Every now and then I will use my Walker Ear Muffs when I'm hunting around the house in the swamp. It helps me hear the woods better because of my bad hearing.
I had a Model 700 BDL from the Remington Custom Shop in 7mm-08 AI. 24" barrel with a Zeiss scope. Best shooting hunting rifle I have ever owned. I was fire forming brass one day and someone had left some playing cards on the 200 yard boards. I remember hitting diamonds on every shot. I can...
I have an M14 that has a black fiberglass stock and heat shield and I call it Black Death. I also have an AR15 in 6.5 Grendel with a 20" fluted heavy barrel named The Pig Punisher.
