Anybody deal with Mossberg ATR 100 rifle

@100 yards my 100ATR in 270 drives tacks with barnes bullets 130. I'm trying the hornady interlocks soon, but doubt they can be any better than the barnes. Factory ammo win powerpoints, I was about 1.5 inches@100, not bad, about what I expected. All in all, for 300 bucks, its a darn fine...

    6.8 SPC for brown fur?

thanks adam......definately restored my confidence, I'll keep you guys posted with the accuracy, but from a break action barrel, I suspect less than MOA@100 yards.

    6.8 SPC for brown fur?

some guys think I'd better off with my bolt action 30-30 within 150 yards and they have a legitimate point, so we'll see if the accuracy of the 6.8 is the tie breaker.

    6.8 SPC for brown fur?

thanks for the photo, once the deer is lying on the ground, thats pretty convincing that the caliber is up to the task

    TSX Performance At Close Range

Yeah....I've seen 30-30 shots that "broke bone" put the deer down quick, then a 7mm mag shot behind the shoulder at close range allow the deer to run a ways. Like I said in my other forum under deer hunting, no matter what you shoot the deer with (longbow, crossbow, shotgun, muzzeloader or...

A few questions about mountain 700's

you've got a good gun with the stock mountain rifle. My hunting buddy has one in 30-06 and it is lightweight with a beautiful stock, hard hitting and with a little fine tuning, as accurate as you would need. For an all around gun, if you were to hunt in North America and have that gun in...

    Ruger M 77

I got a Ruger M77MKII in 6mm rem and handload. The best groups I get are when I allow the barrel to cool down between shots, otherwise the groups run wild, no matter which handload I use. Just my 2 cents.

    whitetail guns

I agree, don't worry about overkill, worry about over carrying a heavy gun that may be a nuisance on long hikes up mountains, but if its treestand hunting a field 200 yards from the truck, I'd bring my 338 win mag to ensure a solid blood trail, if the deer goes anywhere.

You're favorite "woods gun"? mine proved true today

Even though I take different guns on hunting trips, my favorite is my Savage model 340B, bolt action 30-30, with a side mounted, lightweight 4x32 scope. This is the most accurate gun I've ever owned and as we all know, the 30-30 will get the job done up to 200 yards. Forget about the...

    Deer are tough creatures..

longbow, crossbow, shotgun,. muzzeloader or 30-06........plan on tracking the deer for a few yards after a perfect shot. 338 win mag, 50 BMG, 340 Weatherby, then it may drop him more times than he runs, but then again maybe not. Agreed, they are tough animals.

    6.8 SPC for brown fur?

Hello all, I am trying out a new barrel for my TC contender G2 rifle; a 23" 6.8 Rem SPC, 1/10 "twist bull barrel, topped with a rock solid mounted Leupold Vari-XII, 3-9x40. From what I've read, in the real world, it should haul a 110 gr accubond bullet or TSX bullet about 2750 FPS at the...

    Browning BAR

Hello folks, I'm kinda new to this forum and medium bore rifles. I have a 1971 Browning BAR in 338 win mag, scoped with a solid 3-9 Leupold. I am having trouble with consistent groups. For example, I've shot a one inch group with the 225 grain corelokts, but then subsequent shots are all over...

    Nj longshot

Hello all, I am new to the forum and wanted to tell about a far shot I had.....for New Jersey......I was blackpowder hunting on the railroad tracks and saw a deer pretty far away. I pointed my CVA Optima topped with a Leupold VXII, 300 grain Hornady SST and 100 grain 777, aiming at the neck area...

338 Lapua & 300 Grain SMK Scores On Deer

yeah, hunting deer with my 338 win mag never bothered me, I just used a heavy bullet and dropped as much powder as my semi-auto would allow so that it would still cycle. I now have loads that are similar to a black powder rifle, with a bit more pop. Plus you get some braggin rights when having...
