some guys think I'd better off with my bolt action 30-30 within 150 yards and they have a legitimate point, so we'll see if the accuracy of the 6.8 is the tie breaker.

I got a Ruger M77MKII in 6mm rem and handload. The best groups I get are when I allow the barrel to cool down between shots, otherwise the groups run wild, no matter which handload I use. Just my 2 cents.

I agree, don't worry about overkill, worry about over carrying a heavy gun that may be a nuisance on long hikes up mountains, but if its treestand hunting a field 200 yards from the truck, I'd bring my 338 win mag to ensure a solid blood trail, if the deer goes anywhere.
