    Which 6.5?

In a factory chambering I'd go 6.5 PRC if I wanted to push for some performance. I went with a 6.5-06AI and I've been very pleased, 3100fps+ with 143s. Yes I had to form brass, but I did it from 30-06 brass which is always going to be available. The 6.5-284 doesn't require forming but even...

    ELD X

    I've had good luck on deer/elk with the 285gr ELD-M. I know it's an M, but it's worked.

    Maker Bullets

I did not get a chance to shoot a deer with one last season, but I load the 500gr .458 Makers for my bolt action SOCOM subsonic. Milk just results show nice big flowers with 5 gallon jug penetration. Next year I'll take a doe if I have to just to test them.

    How much XX?

My longer range rifles wear 4X20 or 5X25. Longest I've taken game is 738 yds, it was a 5X25 and I don't recall what I used but it wasn't 25, probably 18-20X. I once shot an elk at 629 yds with a 4X16 at full 16X and I lost the animal in the recoil, it managed to move enough I could not find it...

    Suppressor?

Before you go off the deep end on suppressors, figure out what you want and may want to suppress. Make a plan for what suppressors you will need so you don't invest time/money in ones that you will regret later. In particular, if you may want to swap between guns, decide on a mounting system...

    What 224 to build

If you haven't read up on the ELD-VT, I suggest you do. It is NOT a standard 62gr bullet. It is very different and requires a faster twist. It's way longer than a normal 62gr bullet. If you have obtained the 62gr ELD-VT and verified it stabilizes in a 9 twist please post the results.

    What 224 to build

Depends what your objectives are. Bolt gun, speed? 22-250 or AI, 22 Creed. Good speed with more optimal barrel life? 223AI. AR? Consider 22 ARC though it's not fully released yet. Either way, the 62gr ELD-VT bullets are worth serious consideration and I'm interested when they get released...

Hunting with a Modern Sporting Rifle Opinions

I have an AR in 458 SOCOM which is an absolute hammer on deer and great for still hunting. I built a 6.5 Grendel pistol for my son to start using deer hunting when he was 9. The only downside to ARs for hunting is that all that aluminum gets really cold in the fall/Winter. I didn't think I...

New to the 338 edge family, with lots of ???

I got a big jug of N568 because they advertised it as being good in the 300WM and it's what I could find at the time...way too slow even for 212s. I run Re33 in my Edge but I hope N568 works well as I'll never again trust being able to source Alliant rifle powders. Nice to see the Edge back in...

    Nosler Accubond

I shot an elk with the 300 at 630 yards. He didn't move so I kept sending rounds, he took 3 of them through the lungs. Complete pass thrus. The Accubond is the only bullet I've shot from close to far and seen good performance.

    Auction houses

I did one online estate auction, have watched a couple more. Generally if they go to an auction house they seem to be large collections dominated by military collectibles, not sportsmen. The ones I have been to had very few R700/Savage rifles. I did pick up a couple 1903 variants and a...

    Stock suggestion for youth rifle!

I went the AR15 pistol route initially to get a rifle with a short enough length of pull and light weight for my son. 6.5 Grendel. With the ATF BS with pistols I ended up pinning a brake to a longer barrel to get him to 16". Still the adjustable length of pull is usefull.

    Hornady ELD-VT bullets- Form Factors

Tried some of the Midway blems out of my 223AI 8 Twist...3350fps with the load I chrono'd, tried a few different loads...3 MOA at 100. Bad enough I don't consider this a point to start serious load development. Kind of tired of people debating this result without trying it themselves. I'm not...

McGowen. Hajve had a lot of good barrels from them. Maybe this one was just picky. I've got a decent load, it's just not the best I've ever gotten from an AR. Could be a lot of reasons. AR's just aren't as tunable and accurate as bolt actions no matter what anyone says.
